Forums - Sony Discussion - am not fond of VR as a part of playstatio right now

unpopular opinion. am fine with VR being in gaming. and if Sony had a division outside of Playstation working on VR. i wouldn't care

but I don't really  like it at all. most 3rd party exclusives from indiependent devs are VR titles and pretty much all the exclusives we get are from 1P

don't get me wrong some of these games are good. but the vast majority do not need to be VR. a lot of them are third person isometric platformers that don't even make any sense to have on VR.

this isn't as bad as playstation move. but we've seen tens of VR titles. exclusives as well. how many of the VR-only titles were groundbreaking games? most of them get mediocre to bad reviews.

its just a lot of time and resources and manpower used on something that isn't ready to be as good as traditional gaming when it could have brought us many good hits.

After playing Platformers, Racers, FPS, 3rd Person Shooter/Adventure games, and many more in VR, I find very little inerest in non VR. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Spider-Man, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Delux, Halo, Gears, all would be much better experiences in VR. Add in motion, especially in Racers and Shooters, and it is like going from a video game, to the real thng.

What VR needs is the resources and talent from AAA devs. A full effort title from Naughty Dog, Rockstar North, Rocksteady, and such would set a bar, and be a landmark moment in gaming.

If VR is an option in a game, it is the only way I will play. It is the difference between beng disable, and have full use of your body. I can not go back to being limited when the option is there for so much more.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I read your comment wrong. I thought u said u had little interest with VR.

I don't see how having a non-first person game in VR makes it better tho. its the same thing as a tv at that point. just more resources goes into making it work

If you look at the attach rate, most PS4 owners feel the same way. It's crazy low.

its just a 2nd price to entry and the games are just not that good and most of them are just ports.,

VR just isn't ready for prime time year. However, it will take AAA money to make the games that sell the hardware that moves the whole thing forward. So, we have a catch 22. Nobody can spend big bucks to develop and publish a game that has zero chance of selling the millions of copies needed to turn a profit. But, without big development budgets, the games (very generally speaking) aren't cool enough to convince people to purchase VR hardware. And, without tens of millions of headsets in the wild, nobody can spend big bucks to develop and publish a game.....

I thought so too before I actually tried such games in VR. Turns out something like Moss is completely different in VR. Why? I can't describe it to you. It just feels way different, way better, way more natural, even though you're playing with a controller. Might have something to do with a lower input lag? Hell if I know. On top of that there is also a way way more immersive feeling, even if it's not first person.

Anyway, just try it for yourself. It's the only way to know what VR is all about. As for all that other stuff, I really don't know what your problem is. There is very little content coming for VR, especially when it comes to AAA games. Most stuff is from Indies. You're not losing any games because of VR development and games like Job Simulator would have never happened without VR, because there simply is no point for such a game without VR.

I personally love PSVR and my PS4 Pro has become a pure VR machine. I don't play flat games on that device anymore. I'm not even interested in them anymore. I got my switch for some flat gaming in the bed or on the go or something. But when I'm on my PS4 it's VR or bust. Everything is better in VR, trust me.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

I've been conflicted for a while now. VR has delivered the best gaming experiences I've ever had with Rez Infinite, RE7, Solus Project and many others. However I'm not that fond of short games and that's what 99% of VR games are. For the first year I played over 50 short games, most great, some amazing like Statik and Superhot, yet currently I rather play online GT Sport races (not supported in VR) or chip away at GOW or Detroit become human.

It's amazing to be in the worlds, but it can get very frustrating to fumble around with motion controls. Setup and calibration can still be a pain and it is a lot of work to let my kids play with it. Constant attention required to get everything situated right, keep them from stumbling around, keep the cable clear, help them find the buttons on the move controllers, recalibrate etc.

PSVR is not getting much love from me anymore, and it doesn't help that my old move controllers don't stay charged. When I want to use them they're empty and I'm playing with even more cables running everywhere ugh. I'm still hopeful for a new great game to draw me back in, Tetris effect sure looks good. However I still haven't started up Moss yet nor other games I still have waiting on my hdd.

It's a shame that RE7, practically a launch game for PSVR is still the best full game for it. Free of motion controls, full movement! Last game I tried was Rec room, couldn't figure out how to move. I guess it's teleport only? I got my kids all excited for the battle royale mode and they didn't even make it to the ground before turning it off, disappointed. How do you move, I don't know, they just drifted off the map and that was it.

As you pointed out  I thought first person is the only thing that makes sense in VR  but then I played the little robot demo thing which was a 3D platformer and I absolutely loved it. Not only did it work  but I really hope to see a R&C, Rayman and other games in VR. The immersion is brilliant and it is what helps take platforming games to the next level imo.

They are supporting the VR more than the PSVita.....
