Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Odyssey totally burried 3D World

I legitimately look at both and don't feel even the slightest tingle of desire to play, never have and likely never will :/

What's wrong with enjoying two incredibly different styles of Mario? 3d world is still an enjoyable game

Nothing wrong with it. I just think many of us expected something on the level of Galaxy 2.

The 3 green stars in every level of 3D World were hidden better than the vast majority of power moons in Super Mario Odyssey. The platforming was also better, but the controls and camera were a lot worse.

World was solid and had fun moments for sure. The game suffered from lack of ambition and also the fact it was built for multiplayer. It really hurt the single player experience. Hell, I don't mind linear level design like the Galaxy games (in most instances I prefer it) but the levels in World were built for a lot of people, which made the experience feel awkward when moving around on your own.

Odyssey is masterful. Nintendo can have tacked on co-op like the one in Odyssey as much as they want, but please never bring full on multiplayer to a 3D Mario ever again.

On these two images you posted, 3D World actually looks way better.

3D world is clean , but the artstyle make me want to vomit.

So uninspired, so tiepid, so boring .

I wouldn't say uninspired or boring, it's essentially what Mario 3 or world would look like in 3D. Simple is more like it. Sandbox mario can look the way it does because it's practical. Which is why in the warp pipe sections of the game the aesthetic is more blocky to provide clean cut platforming.

That's how I feel about NSMBWii and NSMBU. I think it was done better in 3D World than in those.

I bought 3D World a year ago to play with my wife. We still haven't touched it.

You are missing out!

It's a fantastic game.

I'll try it out tonight then! May as well play something I own right?

Also, love your avatar.

Mainly because it caused Mario 3D to disappear during 7 years.

The classic, "This got made, but not that, so this stopped that from getting made."

You can't will creativity into existence. You learn by branching out and trying new things. If it were up to fans, "Mario 64 with new levels." would be the answer every time. That's why fans are fans and not the best video game developer in the world. Fans make half of one level in OOT or Mario 64 in Unreal engine with fancy lighting and 4K textures and other fans comment on their work and say, "Nintendo! Hire this person!". Fans remake Metroid 2 and other fans lambaste Nintendo when they protect their IP. Meanwhile Nintendo bites their tongue while publishing a reimagining of Metroid 2 that isn't bound by the limitations of a game developed for GameBoy.

I'm not comfortable saying it was better than 3D World when I haven't played that in 3 years. 3D World was amazing
