Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Failed Switch predictions of analysts

Honestly, things really didn't look good for the Switch at launch.

But the understocking of the system really worked wonders.

And the fact that this is a handheld, and that Nintendo has no more competitor in the dedicated handeld market really helped too.

But as far as long terms sales goes, I still don't think it will top the 3DS.

Disagree, things looked good for Switch at launch, Switch has great concept that aims handheld and home console market in same time, and had huge system seller game like Zelda BotW followed by MK8D. But people passed that and still were negative about Switch, but that mostly comes from Wii U faile.

Are you really try to imply that reason why Switch is selling good is because its supply constrained!? Switch until now would sell few millions more if it's not heavily supply constrained. Demand for Switch was so strong at launch that Nintendo shipped everything they had even additional stocks buy planes, and demand is still strong.

I mean, if you can't proclaim that Nintendo is doomed, what can you proclaim?

Lol, the system is popular because it has great exclusives, not because of being understocked.

OP :

This is kind of why forum users need to keep track of themselves, myself included. We are not the majority for better or worse. I do remember my expectations for sales being lowered after the Presentation, although I always thought that the presentation wouldn't set the general audience off as much as people were making it out to be. In reality, I think most casual consumers didn't watch it, even with Nintendo's aggressive advertising for it. It just was too much of a commitment. That might have been for the better though. It allowed people to just pick up the console, buy zelda, and wait for the next big thing.

Yup. Also the Switch has great built-in viral marketing with its portability, the fact that it doesn't look like a fisher-price toy and ability to play local co-op on the go.

It's understocked because it sells well, not it sells well because it's understocked. Proof: WiiU shipped less than Switch and look where it did go from that point.

Uh, there were very good reasons to be skeptical about Switch's success. It's easy to dismiss those predictions as horrible, but what isn't in hindsight? Also, long-term success is still unsure, as good as things are looking right now.

Problem with arguing that is the case of people saying it'll sell less than the Wii U when the NS is replacing 2 platforms one of which is in a market where Nintendo has no direct competitor any more leaving them with a monopoly. These are people arguning long term success would be less than Wii U and the way things are now NS is almost half way to selling the total Wii U sold in just 5 months.

That's sly.

You didn't say your opinion.

The WiiU shipped way more than 2 millions units during it's first month.

At least , It turned out that their pessimistic view is wrong.

I'm always pro Nintendo. Even when I say something bad about Nintendo, it comes from a place of love. They're my favorite gaming company. Before it the Switch was announced, I made an effort to avoid every NX/Switch thread. I just stayed optimistic and hoped they would hit a home run.
