It does seem to be different from the books, but I thought the trailer looked really interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

No thanks. This is one of those crap movies that tries to cram 3 books into one 2 1/2-3 hr movie. Those never work out. And the gunslinger looks like he would fit better in a generic vampire movie. I think Matthew McConaughey would have been better served as the gunslinger than as the villain.

I'll still watch it but ... I'm not happy about it  Yes Mconaughey would have fit the part of Roland better ... I'd always kind of hoped Eastwoods son would get older before they made these .. he's a little too pretty for my taste but the pick of Clint on the right is pretty much how i imagined ol' long tall and ugly to look.

this movie looks freakin epic. Idris Elba, and alright alright alright.

Interesting you like Elba and Mac in this because those internet people who are true to the book do not like either.  One they do not like that the Gunslingler is black since they believe he is white in the book and well Mr Alright doesn't seem evil enough for the role

Personally I would like the reverse and have Elba as the villain and Matt as the Gunslinger. Oh well, the trailer does look interesting and actually may get me to go back to the books and finish them.

Those last lines .... LOL

I also need to finish the books.  My biggest problem with this movie, besides screwing up the casting and look of the characters (seriously, Roland looks like a Blade wannabe, now), is that they aren't even adapting the books correctly.  It's pretty damn obvious to do this 1 book, 1 movie.  Instead this movie is trying to fit much of the entire series into one movie, pulling elements from 3 books, plus supposedly have some story that's supposed to take place after the last book.  This is going to be a complete clusterfuck of a movie.

I have no interest in it anymore.  Not after looking into what the movie is actually about.  Basically, the typical Hollywood "loosely-based" mainstream adaptation.  And yea, Clint's son wouldn't be a bad choice.  Michael Fassbender would probably be a decent choice, too.

Yes I'm not much of a reader but the two books that I actually read and that where made into movies Jussasic Park and The Autobiography of Malcom X where both inferior to the books.  Jurrasic Park would have been R rated if it followed the book more closely and Malcom X would have been over 4 hours long if it followed the book more closely.  Even though I never read the book most people consider The Godfather movie superior to the book.

With King I enjoyed The Shining, but I also loved Kubrick's take on it.  I think some things translate and other aspects have to be adjusted for different mediums.

Well even if a story isn't based on a book they add stuff to make it more watchable like the did with The Butler or Platoon which is loosely based on Oliver Stones experience in Vietnam but he made up some stuff to make it more cinematic.

^ this.

These books are a homage to clint eastwood's westerns by Steven King.

Would have been awesome if they had gotten his son to play the part.

Also in the books & comics hes not a black man (right?).

At the very least Idris is a good actor but still ...

Edit:  The way Hollywood is I may still get my wish when they re-boot this in 15 years

Never read the books but the trailers do look interesting. Is it just me or do The Dark Tower and Destiny 2 trailers seem to be somewhat similar?

Dark Tower : Gunslinger protecting the tower from the man in black because if it falls, all hell breaks loose and civilization may fall (man in black : "you clawing your way out of the darkness?")

Destiny 2 : Hunter (Gunslinger) Warlock and Titan protecting the tower from the Cabal because if it falls, all hell breaks loose and civilization may fall (Zavala : "times may be dark, but we are Earths greatest hope")
