I understand both games are open worlds, I understand they're both great games. I understand people like Horizon better. I understand people like Breath of the Wild better and i understand I'm stating the obvious. But there's people out there who don't get it. <-- Reason of this thread.

I was reading a thread about "Horizon outsold Breath of the Wild" and I saw comments about people thinking Horizon is better than Breath of the Wild because of that. Like that suprised me. They WERE smart people like me who said "But Gamers had to BUY a brand new console to buy Horizon". When I read that I was like "THANK YOU FOR TELLING EVERYONE" then new comments ignored it and still thought Horizon was better because it sold better. Like wow.

Horizon may be better than BotW. Or BotW better than Horizon. I don't know I can't be the judge. But I want people to KNOW that sales does not make a game better than another game. I'm not a professer at gaming, but EVERYONE should know this.

So if you were the type of person who judges a Video game's greatness by the sales then NOW YOU KNOW THE TRUTH.

But also, who cares? "A great game outsold another great game".

Horizin is a new IP. That a new IP sells this much is practically unheard of. So it was a great feat in itself.

That it sold more than BotW makes it even more impressive. It doesn't mean BotW sold badly - actually it had better sales than Twilight Princess first week. That Horizon was able to outsell even this, makes the Horizon sales really impressive.

And afterall people are overestimeating the influence of user base. Yes, it probably impacted BotW-sales a bit, but not much. Who wants the game gets the console - period. Supply constraints were probably the bigger restriction on Zelda-sales. Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 are the best examples that great games can sell enormous amounts even on small userbases.

So after all: maybe Zelda would've sold a bit more to a PS4-userbase (but not double as much). But overall that doesn't diminish the great sales of a new IP.

I think you misunderstood the intention of the other thread. While in hindsight we can point to many different reasons that could have contributed to Horizon's first week victory (install-base being one), the thread was focused on the surprise of it happening at all. Only a minority of people expected Horizon to sell more than 1.5 million, so by extension it beating Zelda is a surprise.

I don't personally think it'll stay ahead for long, but i also didn't expect Horizon to do so well in the first place. It's a brand new IP and it's only a short jump away from Uncharted 4 numbers. That's pretty crazy.

Or more people want it than they want Zelda. Naa.. that can't be it.

Oh my god... Could we please stop creating threads like these? Both games did amazing numbers. Both had limitations that could have impacted their respective sales and both managed to get past those limitations. There are people who are not satisfied no matter what....

You take your damn logic and march it right out that door good sir!  There is no place for that tomfoolery on these here interwebs!

Wii Sports is better than both of them then.

The big question is, why do you care if people think something is better because it sold more?
