Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Real Talk, Can ARMS become the The Next Big Thing for Nintendo? Both Casual and Competitive (Like SSB/Splatoon Big?)

It depends on how much content the game will offer. How many fighters will there be? Can you customise your gear? Will there be lots of arenas? If this is a full blown game it could be great. I'm definitely keeping an eye on it, looked really fun so far.

Fine I'll rephrase, 3-4 months (June is summer). My points still remain the same.

Also you might want to rewatch the Splatoon reveal trailer as it definitely showed more content than that and was a pretty accurate representation of the core gameplay for a game that wouldn't release for another year.

Unless they blatantly lie then every reveal trailer is a pretty accurate representation of the core gameplay of a game. I don't really get that argument, sorry. And Arms has something Splatoon doesn't do: local splitscreen multiplayer. And yes, this is a very big deal to me. And no, I'm not counting the lame multiplayer Splatoon did include, I never even played that. You should have been able to go online with a local friend like you can in Mario Kart 8. Hopefully Arms has a single-player campaign and a back-story for all the characters. If it does, then I don't see why Arms should have less content than Splatoon. And Splatoon didn't launch with much if I might add.

I thought you were implying the gameplay could become better/more appealing with you bringing up how it could just be an early build. I don't really care to compare it to Splatoon, I was just returning the favor, you fact checked me so I fact checked you. :P

I think it could become a franchise of it's own, but not quite at Splatoons selling level. It very much depends on the game however, while it looks fun it might be a tad bit shallow. Especially if the rooster is small. But we'll have to wait and see.

I imagine it could have been fun to have more than 1v1 battles in arms. Perhaps even 4v4 battles. Not seing that happening though, since regular controls seems to be an option and not the focus.

No, but then again, I didn't believe Splatoon would take off either..

Don't know if it'll be Splatoon big, but I think I can see it reach Hyrule Warriors and Captain Toad's level at least. Though more information and specifics about ARMS is needed before guessing out how it'll be received.

After watching ProJared's video I think it'll be a bigger hit than we might have initially expected. He spoke of there being a lot more depth than was shown in the trailer, said it was far more intuitive than expected, and revealed motion controls are not required.

I already thought it looked like a lot of fun, but now I'm looking forward to it even more.

[never mind]

the fact that it has regular controls as well as motion control makes it possible for ARMS to become an E-sport though it really depends on how the game plays, how well it's balanced and how many characters there are. From people who played it it seems to be a really good title but they need more than 12 characters to create a somewhat competitive scene...

The characters aren't really iconic enough to achieve widespread appeal.

Really? I got a different opinion on that but fair point. That said the game was just introduced so that could all change.
