Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony 'Pleasantly Surprised' by Strong PS4 Pro Pre-Orders

"I've been told, just before we had this conversation, that pre-orders in the UK are looking pretty good," Sony Europe chief Jim Ryan told trade magazine MCV. "I can't give you the numbers yet, but I'm pleasantly surprised." The executive added that the platform holder will have a "significant amount of stock" at launch and through the holidays.

For that price, I expect great things.
His statement doesn't mean much in the long-term, even if it was genuine and true.

I still think Pro will do better than I expected, thanks to the smart pricing.

Echoing what I said in another lockedd thread, by the time the Scorpio releases, the Pro will be even cheaper, and a year later, the Pro 2 will replace the original Pro as the 399$ console.

SONY has the edge this generation and they will NOT benefit from resetting the generation cycle to zero by releasing the PS5, so they will stretch it as long as they can, it's almost too convenient that MS is following suit willingly. (and Nintendo is paving their own separate lane at this point).

It's pretty clear where console manufacturers are heading, how the market responds remains to be seen though.

Good news!

It ll be the most powerfull console on the market for over a year.
1080p60 or 4k30 (upscaled) are good enough for most to jump on and get it for 399$.

Want to play games in 4k, on that big beautifull new TV you just bought?
PS4 pro or wait more than a year? Im not surprised people are buying it.

Excellent news. Hype!!!

What, did they have low expectations or something?

I don't think they will release a Pro2 simply because PS5 will be more powerfull by the name itself than a PRO2.

They will have a harder time to sell a ps4pro2 than a ps5.

you will never see an iphone 6s2. better call it iphone 7 so everyone knows its far supperior.

I haven't pre-ordered mine yet.

Pro 2 is just a code name. They are free to choose whatever name they think fit, as long as it builds on the momentum of the PS4, which I believe it will.

What are you talking about? Sony benefited greatly from resetting the gen. It allowed them to take the crown back. It definitely didn't hurt them with the PS2. There will be a PS5. Sony isn't going to screw up the console market by getting into some specs war with MS. They've already proven that with the Pro, something they could have altered slightly to get it closer to the Scorpio's theoretical 6 Tflops. The console market will start to die if they start releasing HW every two years and people aren't going to want a PS4 Pro 4. At that point, there really is little point in not buying a PC.

I guess people think Sony is lying when they say they aren't going generationless.
