I see... I don't like my DS4 battery life as much as I like the DS3... the DS4 can probably survive a full gaming weekend (12+h) but the DS3 would usually survive a whole week (so probably 30+h) I never measured any of them scientifically.

And if you have 50h on Pro Controller and only charged 4 times you use it very little =]

Ha, that's true. I prefer to play most 3D games with KB+M, so my Pro controller only sees periodic use.

12hrs on the DS4 may actually be almost enough for me. I'm pretty lazy about plugging in my wireless devices. I usually just plug them in once a week, if I can get away with it, so somewhere in the realm of 14-24hrs is ideal.

I think your needs are a little outside the capacities of the DS4 unfortunatelly =[ not sure how much sony is saving by putting so meager battery on the controller... but for the price they charge, a bigger battery eating the margin isn't an excuse for me.

Same with cellphone, I can't understand why they try and make cellphone slimmers (they are already hard to grip) instead of using the shaved space on the eletronics to fit bigger batteries and give us a cellphone that can at least hold for a day instead of half or even 1/3 on hard use.

What a missed opportunity

How long is the charger cable though? The battery life isn't really a problem since I don't mind having it plugged in, but the current charger cables are so short that it's impossible to have it plugged in and sit a decent amount away from the TV at the same time.

You can buy a 5m long USB cable for 3$... I did, and in all honesty its way to long :))

I wish Sony would look at Microsoft's approach and have AA battery support. I have two 2600Mah Nickel Metal Hydride battery's in my 360 and Xbox One controllers.
Beauty of it is, when the battery's are dead, the controller isn't forced to live a cabled life. (And Lithium battery's don't last forever, they have a finite life.)

Although there are external battery packs you can use, but that adds to weight and bulk, sadly.

No batteries please, thats last century tech :) - I dont think many people would want batteries, in fact MS get derided alot for making controllers with batteries every time they launch a new console.

Seriously just have two controllers, charge one and play the other, I've not once ran into any issues with not having a controller to play. Having a second controller then also means you dont need a charging unit for the batteries and you can use it to play co-op, win win.

I've played many many hours on PS/4 and have not once yet needed to replace a controller - because the more controllers you have, you spread the wear and tear on them...

So instead of buying batteries which you usually have in the place you live and buy decent ones like eneloops, the solution is to spend another $60 for a second controller?

I guess this is really something people won't agree on ever.

You can actually have both. The Xbox 360 and Xbox One do.
It's certainly better than replacing ALL of your controllers every few years or being forced to live cabled forever, am I right?

Microsoft should really pull it's finger out and provide the play and charge kit with every controller, whilst providing the AA battery support.

I am still able to use my Xbox 360 controllers from over 10 years ago, wirelessly. Even today... And will likely be able to when I pull them out in another 10 years time.

So your solution is for me to buy 8x controllers? Because you know. I do play 4x Co-Op with people. - Buying extra controllers is simply a waste of money when the solution might only cost Sony mere cents to implement.. And there is still no guarentee you can use all your controllers wirelessly in 10 years time.

The laws of Physics literally tells us that it's a matter of "when" the Lithium-ion battery's fail, not if.
They have a finite amount of cycles... Which can be shortened by improper charging cycles, heat, incorrect storage. etc'.
It's actually not about the amount of hours you use them for.

I am a firm believer in giving the consumer choice and options, if you don't believe that, then fair enough, not my problem.

I have several rechargeable batteries and they are a pain in the ass, even the specific battery of my 5D is a hassle to remember to charge, the common batteries for flash, some controllers, etc are alway empty whenever I need them.

And sure thing 60 bucks will be cheaper than buying several batteries and forgetting them uncharged.
