Probably hardcore. I have most consoles in my possession, hooked up via their optimal connections, with stacks of games.

Casual.

I LOVE ICELAND!

No, it doesn't because you don't need to make an account to read that article. However, I doubt you're making an account to discuss travel, for eg, on this forum.

Seen the thumbs up on the comments? Some have 160 but more to the point...

So, making an account is now a requirement?

Put the goalposts back, cheers.

The spam bot post has 153 likes. Who upvoted those? So, I don't think that's a good measure. In addition to that, core gamers can still play candy crush from time to time. In any case, no one who posted in this topic can claim to be a casual gamer.

You sure are hardcore.

Out of curiousity, what were those unexpected expenses in or after 2004?

I had to buy a replacement car in 2004 after my first car died shortly after moving out of my parents' house. Lost my job in late 2005 due to disability-related absences (I have muscular dystrophy, which makes it very hard to move sometimes, and physical activity just makes it worse). I was pretty much flat broke after bills and groceries until 2009-ish (disability doesn't pay much) as I couldn't find another job for the longest time. Fortunately I have a roommate to split the bills with. But now, unless there's some unexpected expenses, I usually have a little bit of money to spend on myself. Nearly all of my spending money in 2013 went to buying a Wii U and PS4, but I was broke again through most of 2014 and 2015 because of those other big expenses I mentioned. Now I actually have some money again and can afford to buy non-necessities.

And what is an "AC unit"?

Air conditioning. Well, the machine is both a central heating and AC unit, or in more technical terms an HVAC. Here in the American Southeast, you kind of need one. The average high temperature in the summer months here in the Augusta, Georgia area is 91-93°F (33-34°C). Our old AC unit had an irreparable coolant leak in early 2014 and had to be replaced.

Sounds like you have had a hard life. Do you work now?

You are lucky to live in a warm region. I hate the Swedish weather.

I'm never sure what people mean by causal, core or hardcore. I suppose since i'm a huge nerd who's been playing, collecting, and researching games for years, I'd normally think of myself as an enthusiast. Perhaps I'd call myself hardcore but I don't know if my definition would meet up with other peoples since some people say you have to play certain types of games or in a certain way etc.

Its my main interest though.

Probably a Core gamer.

Some really interesting responses but coming to a forum like VGC doesn't automatically make you hardcore. I know a few people who play very rarely but still use forums. In fact, I didn't have a PS3 for nearly 2 years but still used forums because I'd built up relationships and considered some of the users friends.

The PS5 Exists.

I don't consider gaming as part of my identity, so I'm not even sure if I can objectively be called a "gamer". I don't really consider myself to be. It's not even in my top three hobbies/activities. For me, I guess it's kind of like going to the movies. Everybody enjoys movies now and then but that doesn't make everybody a movie buff or film critic.

So, Casual I guess.

What do you consider as part of your identity?

It doesn't make you hardcore but it makes you non-casual.
