Well it's possible apparently to play Co-Op online with an Xboxlive Silver account or Xbox live free so it does mean it's possible to enjoy Co-Op without paying beyond the price of the game, but the lack of couch split screen for me is pretty huge, I've played from From 1>4 and odst/reach co-op split screen it was always a huge element of what made Halo great, it's one thing to say that Xbox is popular now but still... it wont be the same after a big fire fight is over to pause the game and go have a drink and a laugh or so locally.

I'm well aware that a lot of people enjoy online co-op now, but to cut the feature out of a game and then point to it and say hey look no one is playing splitscreen nowadays is just wrong.

Had issues getting Hyped for 5 tho for a while now and when they announced this (was well before E3 they said this btw) It really didn't help that lack of excitement.

343 said that they made a mistake when they said silver accounts can play the campain in co-op:

''Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play.''

I agree with everything else you said. Splitscreen is still important. In Feb 2014, only 17m had a Gold account on an install base of 85m consoles. That's less than 25% of Xbox owners having Gold. So what do the other 75% people do if they want to play the game with friends and family?

If your gonna be talking about sales at least get the concepts right.

Yes, 80ish million 360s have been sold, but that doesn't mean there are 85 million active 360 users let alone 360 owners.

I have purchased 4 360 sku's  at retail and I am sure many other people have brought multiple consoles too.

Active 360 users are a lot more than 25%. Splitscreen is dead, no matter what a few people on forums think.

Split screen games are such rare occurence these days, it doesn't come as a surprise.
Guess half of it is performance, and the other larger half the need to sell additional online subscriptions.

Hopefully Gears of War will have split screen, I never liked Halo, but Gears games co-op with my wife were great fun.

I've only ever played halo 1 and it was with my cousin split screen it was amazing. Re5 with the wife was also fun as hell. Same with gears.

Shouldn't really bother me... PreOrdered a LCE for me & a LE for my Sister.. :D
But I think it sucks 4 many others who liked this Feature (including me) so much in the old Titles.. :/

Point and case to my "remove a feature from a game and then suggest that no one is using it", Also are you suggesting that the actual number of people who went to buy a 360 is closer to 20m given your 4 consoles to 1 person ratio? Would mean more than half the 360s users have moved over to the X1 then.

But yeah just because you haven't used a feature or played couch multiplayer, don't suggest that every other gamer is the same as you please.

Damn, was considering it would still have been possible with two X1's set up in a lan esque setup but the fact that they'd still have to have active gold subs on them ontop of the massive overhead of 2x systems and 2x copies of the game really kills my chances of enjoying this the same as I did the rest of the franchise. Pity really.

I would prefer the performance advantages over split screen any day. These days most gamers game online and its rather useless and not necessary anymore. Glad they choose to focus on the solo play. Multiplayer from what I have played from the beta is amazing and the best so far in the series, that's hoping they stick to the beta formula. Day one for me.

I love playing online as well campaign is rathier boring IMO, but when I play online its with friends in my Man Cave.  If they have to have another xbox and tv setup thats really stupid to haul down my 32 from my bedroom and them bring over their system.  I play with friends that I can see face to face not just yell at across a headset!

No more Halo nights for Sheldon it seems. Seriously though this is pretty messed up, and to think Black Ops 3 actually adds local co-op, and Battlefront will have it to.

I didn't know that, that's pitiful!  It would be nice if bungie would have just staying working on halo. I could have lived without destiny!

While it seems splitscreen co-op / local MP is progressively becoming a thing of the past it is sad to see a franchise well known for its split-screen feature. It gives a game a great deal of longevity because you can play 4 person split-screen MP even when online multiplayer has died down (which probably isn't much of a problem for Halo, but still, it's the principle of the thing). And of course you can play MP off line this way, which means being able to have 4 person MP fun without XBL Gold....oh, now I see what's behind it. No local MP means longer subscriptions for people who only take up XBL Gold subs intermittently.

Hmm though GFX didn't matter? But now people are OK to sacrifice gameplay for res/fps?

Only fun I ever had with Halo was split screen, this really stinks IMO.
