This is ridiculous, honestly. I see people defending this. Would they defend the fact that Vita doesn't come with a memory card by default? Hey, you don't need one if you have one already!

This is worse than no Vita memory card. Newer Vitas have some internal memory, plus some games have save memory on them, so a memory card is not absolutely essential in every case. A freaking power cord is! The defenders are probably mostly Nintendo die hards that would defend Nintendo now matter how wrong they were.

Yeah, I agree. Even Samsung and Apple provide you with chargers/USB connectors.

I seriously cannot comprehend how anybody can defend this horrible anti-consumer move. It is beyond belief that people find any justification for a company selling an incomplete product.

Shoes without laces? Just use laces from your previous shoes!
Washing machine without hoses? Use the hoses from your old machine!

Car without tyres? Use those from your old car! Or just buy new ones, you're spending €20000 on a car, you might as well spend €400 on tyres, you cheapskate! We don't provide tyres to help you save money!

And for Nintendo to even say that they are not including a charger to help you save money by making you buy a charger separately is just ridiculous.

Remember XOne and headphones. XBox fans stood up, called MS out, and forced them to include the headphones. Had they just stood there and kept justifying it, they would have needed to spend more money. And guess what? XOne didn't get a single cent more expensive.

I understand that each gaming company has its fans. I understand the loyalty involved. But you should not just accept it and bend over, people need to realize that companies are there to service you, not the other way around.

Nintendo fans, I know that you love that company. from what I see and read, you are probably the most loyal, most hard-core, most homogenous gaming population in the world. But that doesn't mean that Nintendo should be allowed to get a free pass on any or every poor anti-consumer decision they make. Because, the more you accept it and allow it, the more you will be taken advantage of in the future.

This. A hundred times this.

People need to take their fanboy googles off and realise when they are being taken from behind.

Your post deserves an award.

Nintendo's miss management never fails to amaze me they also think everyone still has wii motes to play smg 2 with. When you ask 20.00 bucks (after the first week) for a game already released not being an hd remake you can at least add some gamepad support for that money.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

If anyone is interested here is a link to an article I wrote on gamrReview after I bought the New Nintendo 3DS LL in Japan.

http://www.gamrreview.com/article/92036/gamrreview-japan-owning-the-new-nintendo-3ds-ll/

Here is a relevant excerpt:

"I was ready to charge the unit but then I realized that the reason the box it came in was so small was because it didn't include an AC adapter. WTF Nintendo? It just so happens I recently bought an AC adapter for my original 3DS (it cost me ¥1,020, or $9.60), which works the same for the new unit."

Just another example of Nintendo giving their customer a fair shake.

I guess they figured it's targeted at existing fans, so more than likely they'll have a compatible device already.

I'm staying well clear of all of that. No money for it, but even if i had the money, i've managed to elude Nintendo's multi-handheld traps.

No excuse for Nintendo to not spend the 2$ to put a charger in the box. That is absolutely unacceptable.

Right, so many people throughout this thread have suggested the price that Nintendo would need to pay to include a charger being from 50cent > $2 there are a number of things to be considered other than the price of the small piece of plastic which is being sold seperately.

1. In Europe most countries here use a different wall socket, when Nintendo decided to go for the no charger in the box model for the 3ds xl over here it meant they no longer needed to worry about which charger was going into which box, that meant rather than having a bunch of different box shape designs (some countries plug sockets are massive compared to others) they could just go with 1 default EU box model and not have to worry about which country was getting it. This saves money on packaging and administrative overhead since there doesn't need to be a seperate packaging line done per country depending on each countries demand for systems at the time, they could happily just make and box 3ds xl's to their hearts content then ship them where needed.

2. Two electronic devices in 1 box, with the 3ds xl in it's current state being sold in the EU there is one device inside the box, one piece of hardware that needs to be tested and only one point of failure, imagine the scenario where a 3ds would be sold with a defective charger, nothing is wrong with the system itself but obviously the customer needs to get in contact with Nintendo and ship it back complete so that problem can be found, rather than just selling a handheld on its own and allowing people to get the charger seperately means Nintendo are not also responsible for the testing of a seperate rather cheap piece of kit inside the box which could cost them the system being returned, this lowers the time spent checking what goes into the box at the factories since some pieces of paper are hardly going to be defective.

3. This is a tangent from the first point but, 3dsxl's boxed in stores here come in tiny boxes they are just a really nicely designed minimalist cardboard sleave around the essential product, in terms of packaging/shiping/handling/storage of not having to include a almost same size as the console charger in each box means that you can have much larger shipments going out of the consoles that will sell without having to include that accessory in the box, also of course means storage to keep a stock of the consoles in game stores or electronic warehouses costs a good deal less.

and really most important reason to do it in the states would be 4. Europe didn't blow up, they tried it out here, rolled out the XL , some people kicked up a large amount of fuss about the charger not being included, there was threads far bigger than this one on here with even more gif responses to good points, that bycotts would happen and Nintendo as a company who likes to make money (instead of all those other non profit companies we love who make games) were evil and had to be stopped... all added up to nothing.

To suggest it costs just $2 to put the charger in the box tho.... means you haven't stopped to think that you first need to redesign the box to fit your charger and if it would apply which region and power outlet the box is going to.

Point 1, 2 and 3 can be good reasons to not include a charger, but 1 and 2 are also excellent reasons to use a standard USB connection.
So, if the best solution ends up being not including a charger, for the users it's also making it a standard USB one.
Not doing it possibly and not automatically benefits only users that already own another Ninty portable with a compatible charger, but goes against the interests of every other user, the only one that surely benefits from this choice is Ninty, so it might as well admit it.

In my opinion it's the best move they can make! You can buy a charger if you want one, but if you have one or more at home you save money!

I disagree. It wouldn't cost Nintendo hardly anything to put it in the box.

Maybe Apple should stop including chargers with iPhones and iPads cause they are all the "same" chargers...wonder how that would make people feel?

not in aus. they keep chaning the bloody connector on the bottom.

Samsung could get away with it.

Basically this.

Some people have notorious double standards when it comes to downplay the Vita and put 3ds in some kind of altar. The truth is, Vita comes with a free 4gb and a the power charger. I don't know what kept Nintendo from including the charger since it's such a cheap component, makes no sense and poor of those who bring a N3ds home thinking they will just have to charge and start playing their game and will realize that there's no charger brick inside, having to make their way again to the store. Simply outrageous.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

People should stop being so apathetic of this. If this was Sony, they would get blown out of the water with so much hate they'd have to discontinue the console within the month. Not everyone who owns their old console, especially when the next version is backwards compatible, wants to keep the previous version. Selling the previous version on Ebay without a charger will degrade the value on a massive level or I can include one and have the time and money wasted to buy a new one.

They're not saving people money as people like to put it. Unless you're going to keep an unused 3DS lying around, you're losing money regardless how you want to spin it.
