Forums - Sony Discussion - Hajime Tabata wants to make Final Fantasy XV "more casual, one button action"

Brigandine is a one button game.

Actually it's not, if you disclude the digital pad, you still can't progress with a single button.  Without three buttons you can't switch your monsters around or reqcruit more monsters, making completing the game impossible.

Obvious sarcasm is obvious.  You're using the fact that it's an RPG, but Brigandine is a TRPG where there's a lot of strategy involved.  Looking at the enemies stats, not moving as far as you expected thanks to enemy positions, etc.  Even in a regular RPG you can play better if you've got a better strategy though.

I'm sure even in Final Fantasy 15 you can play better with single button combat if you have a better strategy :P.  The problem is, is FInal Fantasy 15 is now less of an RPG and more of an action game, single button combat on an action game adds even more repetition and is clearly going to involve less strategy than another action game that has multiple button inputs.

No. Capcom said that if you want horror go check Revelations games now, hence the the new "subtitle" added.

Capcom is clearly talking about Resi Revelations here... -____-

Capcom says a lot of things.
:P

That's because Capcom is so incredible bipolar, you can't even tell what they're going to do/say next! xD

He's talking specifically about the combat of the game. You'll still need other buttons to open up menus. The whole was to not unnecessarily complicate the game. That was it.

Ok, this is getting extremely funny, it is not literally one button

What he means that a "flow" of actions can be triggered by one button. Example: by pressing and holding square button, a series of 3 to 4 attacks happens, by the end of the "flow" you press and hold another button for continuous action.

One thing for sure, Tabata is terrible at PR. He somehow managed to turn TGS hype into doubt in a single day. Really bad advertising.

Why? Why does he want to ruin Final Fantasy?

If they want to do a different kind of game that is simpler, fine. But it should be done as a spinoff, while the main series game should still release (in a timely fashion) and be what the core fans of the franchise want!

You do realize the old final fantasy games didn't involve a bunch of button pressing.

They required a lot more than 1 button though. Sometimes even the pause button was needed, imagine that!

Not all the time though a lot of times it wasn't needed unless were uncluding the dpad as buttons. Down X on attack, X on monster. Rinse and repeat.

I hope that's true..
Again, this is starting to sound like Type-0....

GAH WE NEED A DEMO OR SOMETHING THIS IS SO CONFUSING ;__;

I think people are misinterprating what he's saying. I think that what he's saying is that you won't be pressing a whole lot of different buttons to chains attacks. Similar to a game like Fable 2, where each button is used for different types of attack (one for melee, one for magic, one for projectile weapons...). Basically, you won't have to press complicated combinations of buttons to input a satisfying attack chain.

I think it's better to wait until we have more information about the battle system before crying over it and jump to negative conclusions.

Believe me, it is. Re-read the two interviews and then re-watch the gameplay footage and focus on the flow of action. It is clearly the way it's going to work.
