If they want to do a different kind of game that is simpler, fine. But it should be done as a spinoff, while the main series game should still release (in a timely fashion) and be what the core fans of the franchise want!

You do realize the old final fantasy games didn't involve a bunch of button pressing.

They required a lot more than 1 button though. Sometimes even the pause button was needed, imagine that!

Not all the time though a lot of times it wasn't needed unless were uncluding the dpad as buttons. Down X on attack, X on monster. Rinse and repeat.
