Forums - Gaming Discussion - Did Sony lose Japan?

sony needs japanase games like: dragon quest, bloodborne, final fantasy, kingdom hearts, the last guardian, etc..

once some of these games will be release on japan ps4 get a lot of sales.

blame the Japanese game developers for trying to appeal to the western audience to much.

Me personally like Japanese games just the way they are, so I guess they have a problem listening to their fanbase.

Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

PS4 hasn't even started in Japan. It will have more exclusives and all the 3rd parties for itself. Sony has already won on home consoles.

It has started, half a year ago http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=775520

Bayonetta 2 is on WiiU so 3rd parties all for itself is already wrong... (ironically one of the biggest port begging games of all time and its never going to happen)

They haven't already won as well. PS4 can still do 5mil-8mil lifetime, depending on wat the situation will be. Look at vita, has more 3rd party support than the 3ds and yet cant beat it in a single week this year. (though 2/3 times it was virtually a tie as both trackers had one over the other).

PS4 is already tracking behind every console in japan aside from i think dreamcast (though dreamcast is about to be ahead of it). Dont give me "they already won" when we haven't seen anything yet.

They probably put it somewhere in their dark basement!

Yep, collecting dust in the closet is so passé, at least in the basement Japan can make friends with Linux geeks!

Don't forget about otakus!

Right, I was forgetting them...  ZOMFG! I think I don't wanna know what will happen in that basement!!!  =8-O

sony said that on TGS ps4 will show many japan games.

i think they finally show us the last guardian for ps4 to december in japan and get a lot of sales ^^

It's simple really. If Dragon Quest XI is on the PS4, Sony wins Japan. If Dragon Quest XI is on the Wii U, Nintendo wins Japan. Sure, theres a bunch of other factors but in the long run I think it'll be close and whicher console gets DQXi will push it over the other.

Sony once ruled Japan with a iron fist.  Of course Nintendo always had the handheld market on lock, but the Playstation took the world by a storm selling 100,000,000 (estimate) consoles that the competition could only dream of selling.  With about 19,000,000 (estimate) consoles sold in Japan alone, PS couldn't be stopped and is one of the highest selling consoles of all time.

Sony's next console "Playstation 2" was a even greater success.  The PS2 sold more then the PS selling more then 150,000,000 (estimate) consoles.  Again, competition could only dream of selling that many consoles worldwide.  The PS2 sold 23,000,000 (estimate) in Japan, that's 5,000,000 more then the Playstation.  Sony ruled its home turf in the console market.

Fast forward to the Playstation 4.  The PS4 launched in Febuary in Japan. While the PS4 holds the lead and doing very well in the United States and Europe, it's falling short in Japan.  With the PS4 launch and seven months in, it currently sits at 600,000 (estimate) consoles sold.  What do you think, has Sony lost Japan to Nintendo?  I think they did.

Japan is Nintendo country now.

(1) It is published by Nintendo, no matter how you spin it it's a 1st party game.

(2) Senseless comparison. 3DS has games that appeals to a far wider audience than Vita. WiiU has proven that it can't go beyond Nintendo enthusiasts in Japan, whereas PS4 is likely to expand its audience with games like FFXV, KH3, MGSV, Tekken 7 and the many 3rd party games that will come during this generation. In case you didn't notice first 6 months doesn't equal an entire generation.
