Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 is the most innovative 8th gen console by a mile. haters be damned!

Innovation is a word thrown out a lot in this industry. publishers cant make a statement without using the word, and every damn game is filled with innovation according to its publisher. heck, every call of duty is the pinnacle of innovation if we are going by how much activision uses that word. The word however, isnt just used in press releases, its also used by the fans. "i dont care about graphics, all i care about is gameplay and innovation!", "i wish developers would stop rehashing the same old game and innovate for once!" are just some of the usual statements made us, the self entitled gamer.

Of course, we, the self entitled gamers are experts when it comes to innovation, we can sense it tingling against our ball sacks when ever it is present. and thus we have used our magic abilites not just to judge the innovation in games, but also on the hardware.

Nintendo has been credited a lot for its "innovative" WiiU, and Microsoft has bragging about its innovations in power of the cloud and kinect. while i heard the term of the PS4 being a "PS3.5" many many times. and while i certainly do not say that what i read on the internet and what i saw as a general consciousness around the forum to be an actual representative of reality, i am here to set things straight, even if its just for my own tiny little heart to feel better.

List of PS4 "Innovations"

-DVR capibilites. recording 15 minutes of gameplay and uploading them in a touch of a button. (XB1 only offers DVR capaibilites this gen along with PS4, WiiU doesnt)

- Streaming gameplay. streaming is big now, whether people accept it or not. (again, XB1 offers streaming, WiiU doesnt)

- Game Streaming (PS Now). for those who arent interested in the service, let me tell you this, i am not either, however you cant deny that this is something that PS4 offers, and the others dont. even after all those claims of MS with the "powa of da cloud".

- Virtual Reality. a completely new way of experiencing gaming, and so far, Sony is the only one doing it. whether you like it or not the potential of VR is huge, and PS4 is at the forefront when it comes to VR on consoles.

- Share Play. a wonderful feature that lets any of your friends play a game on your console through the internet. this is a first, new and awesome feature when it comes to sharing games, playing co-op or playing online together. and niether the XB1 or WiiU are doing it.

while WiiU slapped a screen on the controller and Microsoft made kinect for better voice commands apperantly, the PS4 really provided the biggest step when it came to a generations leap. of course, this is all my humble opinion, and i eagerly await for those who will call me biased, but the proof is right there, the PS4 is doing a lot of things the compitition is not. while the compitition offered gimmicks and fads in the shape of a screen on a controller and kinect and tried their best to claim innovation, pretty much in the same manner like bobby kotic calls innovation with call of duty.

Hey, hey, hey hey hey heyhey, let's please not forget rumbling triggers, biggest innovation of the gen.

I dont think psnow is going to take off like people think. Pricing is a huge concern and most people's internet is hot garbage. The VR stuff is innovative but at what cost? Thats the real concern there. Also, most of your innovations are on Xbox One as well. But yeah, i mostly agree. Ps4 is great....Xbox too.

"Slapped a screen on the controller."

Yeah, I can't do this.

Vita is the most innovative. Its a controller thats its own system :P

3ds is the second most, its in 3D @.@

Edit: "8th Gen"..... Im excluding The Console part >_<

You don't have to mention the X1 all the time. PS4 released first, so they are the innovators. X1 released later, which shows they just copied everything the PS4 does.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

TBH i think this gen has been lackluster so far. It is all promises of innovation and no one is really delivering on it.

I fill like the consoles have been rushed out, even though they had more years than normal to get their shit together. I think the long gen prior made them all laid back too much and be like you know what lets release it with half the features since we can do software updates. The fact that the PS4 could not play 3D blurays out of the box is evidence of that. Hell I didn't even know. I assumed when I got mine it would work lol.

Yeah, I'd argue now of these innovation influence how I interact with the game. Only how I perceive it, receive it, or share it.

So I don't really care about them.

I  think the PS platform as a whole is innovating in its broad scope of accessibility;  Sony is the first and only platform holder to establish such a diverse ecosystem within this industry. You have unprecedented connectivity between PSVita and PS4 that allows the kind of synchronization Nintendo owners currently dream of (I've read some people on here hoping that the next Nintendo platform is hybrid between a home console and something portable.  This is already achieved if you want to pay a premium price tag).

You have PSNow allowing potential customers to experience exclusive marketplace titles on a diverse range of systems ranging from Smart TVs, to PC, and I'm willing to bet we'll even see Cell phones eventually allowing access (if it hasn't been announced already).

It looks like the Playstation segment is being integrated into the rest of their hardware products and this will be the first time something like this is achieved, ever.  Looking toward the future genuinely excites me because I'm a sucker for a good comeback story and seeing Sony claw its way out of its recent financial struggles is very interesting to watch.  I honestly hope to see them competing alongside Apple, Google, MS and Samsung because diversity is what breeds innovation and the fact that there's literally a handful of companies dominating the tech sector, to me, is seriously not a good thing. Monopoly? Ain't nobody got time fo dat

I cant wait for Ps4 Vr, finally f the real world my ass is in the game.

GTVr Supra, Nurburgring.... i cum!
