Forums - Gaming Discussion - Destiny: Seven locations with only one area to explore per location

i was thinking about skyrimlike huge after the comments on how huge the game will be, but its just tiny...

Skyrim? Destiny is not even trying to compete with the scope of that game. I love Skyrim, but it was at its heart an exploration game. the thrill of skyrim was "journeying" to new places and see beatiful coutry sides. Skyrim was kinda barren enemy wise, but that was part of the lore, you know how annoying Skyrim would have been if you were fighting wave after wave of enemy just to go from one place to another. Destiny makes you feel surrounded and you are fighting in an infested area.... you need your ship just to get in and out safely.

Now a better game to compare it in scale would be Fallout 3. I think once all 7 worlds are avail the total land area will be similiar, probably even larger.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

What frustrates me the most is bungies lies. They said this game was huge but it really isn't. 22 missions.... I mean only played 5 but that was a total of 1 1/4 hours. This game is obviously not that big. I'd guess I could run through all that in around 7 hours. That's sad. The pvp isn't that good. I was gunna preorder this game but now I will wait on it. Disappointed to say the least.

people scoffed at me in my other post but then a guy with a Halo avatar and Halo sales bets in his sig says something like this... thank you.

Haha I don't know what that's supposed to mean. Ya I am a huge halo fanboy. Love scifi. Anyway I liked destiny's single player/coop, but like I said it looks like it's going to be too short. But isn't that a compliment in a way. If I didn't like the game I wouldn't give a rats ass.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

it really is a pity how narrow minded people viewed this beta.  complaining of not much to do while ignoring the array of options to be had.  Messing around with high level guys,   exploring the bounds to find obscure places they hid a chest, which could very well have dope gear in the final release.   stealing a pike and roaming the cosmo.  Battling the death walker by yourself. public events and bounties,   Achieving a high grimoir against some of the tougher enemies,   Finding all the ghosts they've hiden around.  Plus the crucible only offered a taste of what is to come.  I loved the iron banner, as i got to see how my gear was compared to others,  somegames were really tough, while others were pure domination lol

This was a beta, and it must have confused some as it seems like such a smooth running game. lol

Well, I looked at this game like an open world game for a while, trying to explore "obscure" places for chests and whatnot, but I kept running into invisible walls and "out of bounds" areas. A game like this shouldn't be designed in a way that blocks you with invisible walls, it should say to the player "what you see is what you can explore", but it doesn't and that is a pretty big flaw. Any game this focused on exploration should let me explore where ever I want, not where it tells me to. Also, the free-roam missions were boring and repetitive and didn't really give me any reason to play through them other than grinding.

PVP was good, but it didn't really feel like anything special...It was just another FPS game. Similar with the single player, the problem is that there is a lot of hype surrounding this game and it seems to just be ordinary instead of extraordinary.

Most of this stuff wont change between now and release...at this point, they will likely be tweaking balance and patching bugs and whatnot, not altering the game in any meaningful way. Betas are for marketing more than they are for testing.

Pretty weak IMO. I loved the beta but I will wait till a black Friday deal.

umm, most of the invisible was and barriers was because this was the BETA. Bungie has stated that the amound of content in the Beta is around 10% of the total game.

I had this game pre ordered but now I'm going to cancel it. It just seems short on content, generic, and quite repetitive. There's too many good games coming this fall/winter to purchase to waste 60 dollars on a short mmofps. I think this game is way overhyped, just lots of empty space and killing the same enemies. I love halo and bungie, but the beta and alpha left me with nothing but boredom and disappointment.

Yeah, I'm sure bungie would say "We aren't letting you go on this roof because its a Beta! Being on this particular roof is content that is locked for the full game. Get hype."

@.@ I'll call you when the final game comes out and theres still invisible walls everywhere

Well the missions were somewhat short and straightforward; and it wasn't the biggest map I've ever seen either. It was a good size but not massive. Yeah it's just the beta; thinngs could be difference but still.

It's just the cost and the dev time which I don't get; you'd think it'd be packed with content but no doubt much of it will end up as DLC

I honestly expect more from a level-headed mod.

"Well the missions were somewhat short and straightforward"

It's a beta.

" it wasn't the biggest map I've ever seen either"

Again, a BETA.

"It's just the cost and the dev time which I don't get"

It cost less to make than people seem to think. Standard AAA budget. The $500M number includes marketing and expenses on future titles in the series. You should know this?

"no doubt much of it will end up as DLC "

There was just a thread about how games in 1996 cost $60. Considering that those games cost PEANUTS to make compared to what it does today for a identically priced game (it's actually cheaper today if you take inflation into account - which you should), then you realize that we are getting A LOT more for our money than ever before. So if they want to add even more, optional content after that then WHY complain?

People would have pissed themselves with excitement if they had the option to download more Mario 64 content back in the day. What to speak of Mario Kart 64 online. But noooo, we are so spoilt that we get used to all these things after a few experiences and then demand more.

You appear to be mistaken. If you've been following what I've been saying I think the game looks and plays brilliantly, but it's not "MMO-esque" as I expected when the game launched. Also; the problems with the mission structure which I have is likely to be the same in the full game if there is only 21 missions in the main game which feels rather light. Yeah there's a lot to do outside of that and I could spend many hours running around aimlessly no doubt. And yeah there are areas which are locked off but we can only see how much they add when the full game launches ofcourse.

As for the dev cost and the DLC practices, I'm not even going to get into that. But $500m is not an average budget at all and a game shouldn't release DLC at Day 1 or around Day 1; that should just be included in the game in the first place.

Again, the beta was great and the game looks great. It just wasn't what I expected from what Bungie have been saying and what we've been seeing from the game; but that shouldn't make it any less fun to play.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

So, there are barriers that effectively split a planet into areas, like Borderlands, and there are 6 planets, that means 6 times Borderlands? Seams big to me.
