Seven new sprites you say? Completely different, I am utterly convinced that this is a new game now.

I don't think you've ever played a pokémon remake... They're not ports of the original, in this case they've used the X/Y engine to recreate Hoenn, and add content which first appeared in the DS games or X/Y.

You can almost say it's Pokemon X/Y in Hoenn, but then again Hoenn is a very different place than Kalos. Don't talk bad about things you obviously don't know anything about.

Just ignore the trolls!

New info!!!

A new feature introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire is Prehistoric/Primal/Primeval Pokémon. These Pokémon seem to work in a similar manner to Mega Evolution through a process called Ancient Devolution, and sends the Pokémon back to their prehistoric state. Full details on this feature are not known

Some differences in gameplay between Ruby/Sapphire and OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire:

  • Attacks are no longer defined by being physical/special based on their typing, but on an individual basis. This has greatly altered the way we battle.
  • There were 319 Moves in R/S. This number has grown significantly since then, adding more strategies and diversifiying Pokemon.
  • There were 386 Pokemon in R/S. There are now 719 Pokemon available to capture and train. This has led to greater diversity and strategies in battle.
  • There were 76 Abilities in R/S. There are now 189 Abilities available. This has led to greater diversity and strategies in battle.
  • Plethora of new Items for Pokemon to hold, which (once again) has led to greater diversity and strategies in battle.
  • Mega Evolutions have been added, adding even more customization and strategic diversity in how a player battles with his Pokemon.
  • TMs are now available to be used repeatedly, allowing for greater moveset diversity among Pokemon.
  • Rotation Battles, Triple Battles, Inverse Battles, and Sky Battles have been added, giving players more ways to play against one another as well in the game.
  • Fairy type has been added, greatly altering the battling scene.
  • Other typings have been altered in what they're resistant to.
  • Typings have also been altered to have resistances to statuses. Fire Pokemon cannot be burned, Electric Pokemon cannot be paralyzed. Spore attacks do not effect Grass types. Etc.
  • 74 Pokemon have been given updated stats, affecting the way they are used in battles.
  • Super Training has simplified and shed a light on how trainers can EV train their Pokemon.
  • Status effects have been altered to change how useful they are in effect.
  • 3D Graphics with 3D movement.

And that's just some of the things off the top off my head. So to say that R/S and OR/AS are "exactly the same game" is (as Spemanig has already said) objectionally false. If that's the subjective statement based off of your own rules and goalposts that you want to make for yourself, then go ahead. But to pretend that that statement actually has any bearing in the actual reality of the situation is ignorant at best. OR/AS will offer a unique spin on the original R/S game due to these mutiple changes introduced since 2003, and many gamers will enjoy the game based on that.

Anyways, the discussion has been derailed due to this rabbit hole, so let's move past this and actually talk about the information based on the OP. NO MORE TALK ABOUT WHETHER OR/AS IS THE "SAME GAME" AS PREVIOUS POKEMON GAMES. DOING SO WILL RESULT IN A MODERATION FOR SPAM. If you want to talk more about it, feel free to make a different thread on the topic. Thanks.

*looks away*

I refused to be spoiled! But it looks and sounds mighty fine.

...

Too late

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I consider X/Y to be the exact same game as B/W, B/W 2, D/P/P, R/S/E, HG/SS, FR/LG and G/S/C.

You have eight gyms, you have an Elite Four, you start in a smaller town with a Pokemon Professor named after a tree, you go along a series of routes battling individual trainers with Pokemon you caught. the story is about a "rival" and a "Team", you beat a Champion and then the credits roll.

And you spend $40 every two years to get this with all the names and half of the sprites swapped out. And you get hyped when it's announced that - WOW - some game element looks SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TO BEFORE.

Do you play modern Pokemon games or are you just one of those people who stopped after Gold/Silver because it all "turned to crap" after that?

OT: Mega Evolutions are the dumbest thing ever. I was hoping GameFreak wisened up and threw that idea into the trash, but I guess not. It's terrible, but hopefully I'll be able to completely skip over it like I did in X/Y.
