Because a lot of handheld exclusive is better than console exclusive

I have a 3DS, but I like home consoles way better and it's because they are way more immersive. The same thing goes for things like Netflix. Idk how people get into watching movies on their cell phone. The screen is just too damn small.
I like the games on home consoles better than I do the ones on handhelds. Big budget action adventure titles, RPGs, and shooters make it to console, not to handhelds, and even for games I like that have both console and handheld versions (lookin' at you, Sonic), I prefer the console version because I like seeing it on a bigger screen, hearing it with better speakers (even if that's just the speakers in my TV), and playing with the controller I use for everything else. It's far more immersive.
Also, I really don't feel the need to have gaming available on the go. The occasions where it would be nice are few and far between. Most of the time that I'm out of the house, I'm either driving or busy at work or wherever I've gone.

I'd actually contest that when it comes to JRPG's. The DS had vastly more Jrpg's than any other platform last generation, and the PSP was a close second. The same is proving true this generation with: Bravery Default, Fire Emblem, Shin Megami Tensei IV (and spinoffs) , Pokemon, Etrian Odyssey, Mario and Luigi, Paper Mario, Dragon Quest VII remake, and Monster Hunter being big RPG titles on the 3DS alone. Considering it's a genre in which a large budget can harm more than hurt (long periods between releases) I think handhelds are the home of Jrpgs. We observed this transition when Dragon Quest IX (a mainline title of the biggest RPG series in Japan) released on the DS.
Because I play handhelds at home anyway like 90% of the time, so they compete directly for my time with home consoles which simply have more and better games. (better suited for home gaming anyway)
I have lost interest and did not use for over half a year every one of my handhelds (GBC, GBA, PSP).
That said, Vita has quite a lot of games that I simply can't skip so I will get it, most probably during 2014 holiday season. No interest in 3DS whatsoever.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!

I should have been clearer, I meant Western RPGs. Yes, handhelds get a ton of JRPGs, but not many of those interest me.

Actually bought my first handheld in the form of a PSVita this fall. I like it but the controls are cumbersome compared to consoles and the UI feels clumsier. It is good for a little gaming here and there though.
Small screen, lower production values, games with simpler design (can be a good thing sometimes but not always), etc.
Some games stand out but even them would be better had they been on consoles. Yes it requires a higher budget to make a console game but you can also sell it at 20$ more.
I enjoy handhelds; 3DS, iPhone, Vita, all that good stuff! Nowadays I don't play them unless I have no other choice. The reason is that I have very little time for games now than I did in high school. So when I do have time, I play a console/PC game because I tend to like them more, and I have a larger backlog for console games.
Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
