Forums - Gaming - Why don't you like handheld gaming?

You know, for many many years I hated handheld gaming. Just because I couldn't imagine looking at things on a crap small LCD screen when I could be playing them on my TV.

But Vita changed my mind. I don't quite know what made me buy one, but I did and it changed my gaming habits. I'd now say I game 80% on Vita and 20% on PS3 as compared to 95% PS3 / 5% Wii last year.

And it isn't just Vita. Buying a Vita convinced me to get a PSP for the games which are UMD only, and I'm loving that too (although not as much as Vita because the screen is a bit wank and the UMD's make a lot of noise).

Next on my hitlist is 3DS. I don't actually plan on getting an eighth gen home console for quite some time.

I noticed that big companys can´t hide their bad games behind pretty graphics on handhelds.

My prime examples are Squeenix and Capcom.

Homeconsole output ? Questionable, especially Squeenix.

on the handhelds? Ace Attorney 5 is supposed to be fantastic, Monster Hunter 4 was received very well (from what I´ve gathered), Squeenix was great on the DS and especially PSP.

I love handhelds.

Glorious 3DS and Vita master race .

- I hate small screens.
- I already have home consoles for gaming, investing in handhelds as well would seriously hurt my wallet.
- From what little I have played, I find portable games far inferior to their console brethren.

On topic though, if you play games, you're a gamer. Declaring others to be "real gamers" or not is just elitism.

Vita is my favourite console, I like playing it more than PS3. It's a pity that PS3 gets so many awesome games, while 3rd parties make only a handful of games for Vita :/ I hope they pick up their game, cause I'd rather stick to Vita in the near future till I get a new flat and a PS4 with it To me Vita is the ultimate gaming machine. Hope Sony convinces the West devs to give it a chance.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I prefer handhelds, creativity is dying on home consoles as its becoming to risky. you cant do something different coz its not garenteed sales and then you end up like THQ. On handhelds budgets are smaller meaning there is less of a risk and so companies make awesome creative games (except Sony, they just shut all their studios down if they make handheld games)

i did own a game gear as my only handheld ever

i dont like it i cant get fully immersed screens to small your in a bad posture with you head pointing down or hands in front of your face while playing can stop and think how much better it would be on a hdtv

is great if you cant access your home like on a long ride while on vacation when your a kid but if your not home your usually outside doing stuff like being at a park or beach ect and why would i be gaming then?

i would recommend HH to real young gamers to get them ready for console gaming

For those of you saying you don't like handheld gaming and prefer consoles, do you guys not play any handheld games period? There are some seriously awesome games on handhelds that you can't experience on the TV. Even if you don't like taking them on the go, it's still good to have handhelds around the house to play.
