For those of you saying you don't like handheld gaming and prefer consoles, do you guys not play any handheld games period?

Pretty much. I dabbled in a little Pokemon and Kirby's Block Ball in primary school, but I never owned one, and I don't plan to.

That kind of sucks, because I think it is a disservice to yourself as a gamer if you don't play handheld games simply because of reasons like small screens. Obviously if it is not within your budget, console gaming should be enough for one's gaming needs. But handheld gaming has always provided that extra edge to my already satisfied gaming life for when I'm away from the couch. And you're wrong when you say handheld games are inferior to console games. They're portable. They're in the palm of your hands. They're different.

Well to those who say they prefer handhelds, I'm with you guys. I have some of my best gaming experiences on handhelds. Also to those who don't like handhelds, thanks for the replies so far. They have been very insightful.

Why don't you like mobile gaming?

The selection of games especially of the RPG genre is amazing on handhelds.

I've never enjoyed handheld gaming as much as I do now prior to PSP/NDS era. I cant wait to see how the 3DS/Vita era is gonna end up like - hopefully better!

Well so far the 3DS seems to have a greater variety at this point in its lifetime than the DS had respectively, and I consider the DS the best gaming platform (excepting PC's) of all time. I have yet to get a Vita, but I'm sure it is comparable to the PSP.

I like playing games on my iphone, so I would say I'm a handheld gaming fan.

I prefer console though. When I had a psp, I found that I always played it at home, so might as well play on a console attached to a big tv

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Honestly, I think there are many handheld games that are up to console quality. For the most part, I think that handheld games are made so that you can play the game for 10 minutes (many times even less) and stop, or go 2 hours at a time. Console games often do not allow you to do that. Usually you need to play in at least 30 minute bursts to get anything out of a console game.

I used to not play handheld games very much, but I play them almost exclusively now due to being able to play them in places where I can't play a console game and being able to stop at a moment's notice if anything comes up.

I honestly don't understand why someone would not play a handheld, really.

Like I said, I'm speaking from my own experience.

If I was a millionaire, sure, I'd buy every system, console and handheld; I'd be Wii/360/PS3/DS/PSP/WiiU/Xbone/PS4/Vita/3DS. But I'm lower middle class, so I get by with Wii/360/Wii U. ;)

If you dismiss handheld gaming, your not a real gamer.

it sounds the same so who cares!

On topic though, if you play games, you're a gamer. Declaring others to be "real gamers" or not is just elitism.

wow, I dont think ive been owned that bad in my life
