Forums - Microsoft Discussion - If Microsoft were to vanish in the gaming industry, would you...

I'd definitely miss them alot more than I missed SEGA and Atari after they exited the hardware business. Nostalgia aside, neither one of those companies really brought much to the table in the twilight of their years. Sure everyone today has fond memories of the DC, lavishing it with praise and saying how it was the most underrated console of all time, but truth be told it just couldn't stand up to the PS2/GC/Xbox in terms of both hardware and software.

Like them or not, M$ brought alot of innovations into the industry, not the least of which was a fully realized online service that took game consoles out of the dark ages of dial-up modems and interfaces that made WebTV look like futuristic technology. And over the last generation or so, they've been the ones to really push Sony and force them to rethink their strategy in the industry, not Nintendo.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

...remember them fondly? Say how cool the Xbox and Xbox 360 were when discussing about consoles? You know, like Sega?

Or you would still bash them and say "they deserved to disappear"?

Just curious to see your answers!

They entered the business at the right time in order to keep Sony's ego in check, and to pave the way for future online gaming services.  However they threw to much money at a problem they could never solve, and their restrictive and Anti-Competitive polices were eventually a drag on the industry.  They also left at the right time.  (And hopefully PC gaming is now better than ever due to their support)

Good riddance? jk... nah, I think their competition will be missed of course, it's always nice to have someone create something others can copy from and do better.

I'd switch over to PS4 most likely.

I will remember them for Halo and their wonderful controller

I will forever hate them for this, pay to play online crap

I'd feel bad for those who like Xbox

That's actually a pretty cute answer.

It be pretty silly if anyone felt differently imo

Never did really bash them. But I did like the Xbox a lot and 360 made Sony better.

They deserved to disappear, but before, i want them to sell microsoft games studios to someone, a 3rd party.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Well, I rate 360 up there with Dreamcast and Saturn, especially for the revolution that is XBLA. Yes, they would be sadly missed.

Move on and remember the exclusive games I got to play on their consoles but of course, I would rather have them stay since competition is better for the industry.
