How important is dual audio in JRPGs for u?

Very important cant play ... 30 25.64%

I would like to have that... 53 45.30%

Not important at all I on... 34 29.06%

Total:117

There's no reason why it shouldn't be there- but if it's not, then it doesn't really matter

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Why only JRPGs? Plenty of Japanese games that can benefit from dual audio which aren't JRPGs.

They're just singled out because JRPGs are more character focused and story driven than other genres, which leads to a lot of dialogue.

Nope not really, I don't understand a word of Japanese, and personally don't have any problem with English voices in videogames, as cringeworthy as they are, lol... EXCEPT... Star Ocean: The Last Hope, holy fucking shit Edge's English voice actor does not match his appearance WHATSOEVER... thank god with the version there's dual audio, even though I've never used it, it's definitely something I'd consider just because his voice annoys the fuck out of me to the fact that I've never finished it... Japanese voices would be a last resort, but for that game I may actually need them...

SOTLH VA is just fine... even to Lymle, you can easily get used to..

Xen, I can't believe I read this. SO4 has some of the worst voice acting in history. I put it in the same category as Chaos Wars. Every single character outside of Reimi (who was still mediocre) was awful. There really many positive things to say about the game...

I've never met a dub which has been bad enough to put me off the game, so it's certainly not a deal breaker. In fact, I still tend to play with english dubs even if there's the option of dual audio.

I haven't - yet - played Arc Rise Fantasia though. And I intend to at some point.

I didn't mind some of it, but Edge, and now I remember Lymle too, HOLY SHIT SO FUCKING BAD IT MAKES MY EARS BLEED! How can you get used to Lymle's voice?! Yeah, Reimi's voice is good when compared to the rest, but absolutely terrible when compared to other games... is it any better with Japanese voices? Because if I ever aim to finish the game, I may actually need them...

Outlaw, it's nowhere near the epic VA that was chaos wars It's good in my eyes, meracle especially.

Japanese voices are forgettable.. but if you hate English so much, I guess they work? As long as I don't have to listen to Van from Tales of the Abyss (the same guy voiced commander kenny in SO4 it seems), eng VA is fine.

I played it through entirely in English, but I'm assuming there's no way they could do worse.

@ Xen

Meracle was awful. Not as bad as Sarah (serah?), but nothing sounded more awkward than hearing someone trying emulate a cat-like voice so badly.

@outlaw: I disagree, nya!

I don't understand a word of japanese, so I find strangely unconfortable hearing stuff that I don't understand, even if there are subtitles. Also, if there is a humorous scene or something, I'll probably find it funny in English, but not in Japanese. Not sure if that makes sense.

And to be honest, I believe the reason so many people can't stand english dub, regardless of quality, but LOVE japanese dubs is exactly because they don't understand a single word, so it sounds "perfect". Not sure if that makes sense either.

For movies, I only watch them subtitled, but it's a different case. If I watch it dubbed, pretty much half of the performance of the actor is gone. Games are dubbed regardless of the version, so there's really not that much of a difference. The english dub has to be ATROCIOUS for me to care.
