Forums - Sony Discussion - Let's make #PS4freeonlineplay

Selfish is what Sony is being. What if I want to play online a few times a year with my brother, who also doesn't play online much. What if when I want to play is particularly at times when I don't have a few bucks to play or he doesn't. I have to shell out $5 to do it? If they need money for Gaikai, then make Gaikai plus only. They already said the console isn't being sold at a huge loss. They already have an army of former xbox fans itching at the chance to pay for psplus. XBoxOne2, or whatever idiotic name they choose for it will probably charge for local multiplay as well, and the ps5 will follow suit. It's a ridiculous notion paying for online, and completely backward. Every Sony fan saying it's ok and not a big deal while it was a big deal on Xbox is intellectually dishonest, especially if the argument is "well this is not that evil because Netflix is still free", when they know damn well if Sony had said at e3 that the streaming services were also behind a paywall, they would still find a way to pretend it's different with Playstation for some reason, and if getting free games is what makes things ok, then by that logic, the new XBox Live is a better game, since they're giving away 2 games a month.  This is just a case of blind brand loyalty.

I don't care about getting ps+ to play online, I mean come on we get so much content of delicious awesomeness!

This is incredibly dumb, sony have said the money will be reinvested and ps plus is a great deal. This is just plain greed on the consumers part. Some money has to go back to the devs and pubs especially as sony has absolutely no restrictions on 1st party titles including multiplayer. Theyve already listened and sided with consumers on some big issues, and especially given the value this makes me disgusted.

What's with the fanboys and their double standards? mandatory payment for online is a BAD thing, its your freaking money you're wasting, this should have been free, the social features should be PS Plus, but most PS4 users wont care for the social features since most of them are probably region locked, I hated the 360 for this, looks like Steam is still the best solution.

It's not a bad thing. I don't expect a company to go bankrupt just cause I want free stuff. It's as much a waste of money as buying a video game. Sony have never been unreasonbale or greedy with any playstation prouduct they've sold. Even with the ps3, they were losing $200 on each console sold. I'm sure they're losing money again and they need to be a profitable business.

They also give you options. You don't want online play? Not a problem. You don't want pseye/ motion controls. Still fine.

$60 for the game should be enough for that games' servers. Fuck paying for online.

Don't agree. Sony is doing just fine with making PS Plus mandatory for online play.

that

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

im a cheap guy, but $5 a month isnt much to help improve psn. i dont want another thing to pay for but damn its like $40 a year when you find the cards on sale for ps+.... its like, really?........ i find it a way better investment than xbl which i had since it started all the way until it expires in september of this year. to make things better, it costs money.
we are getting used games, trade games, etc, got to give at least a little, and its not stopping you from using media features or anything like that and its only on ps4..... so .... really?

I don't agree with the new paywall either (Yes I got spoiled) but at least Yoshida was apologetic about it:

"I apologize for the financial burden on our users, but on PS4 it’ll also provide early access to beta versions, free games and discounts like on PS3 and PS Vita. In addition to that PS Plus members will receive for free a special edition with slightly reduced functions of DriveClub."

This a million times.
I'm probably the biggest Sony fan (as a whole) in here, most of my prefered products are that of sony's but this isn't the way to go, this isn't 1997, online can be maintained easily without spending too much money, keep Gaikai for PSPlus and the social features like streaming videos.

what should be free

-PSN Account

-Online Play

but with this you get limited by the following

-Limited to one or 3 PSN IDs

-Cloud saving limited to 2 GB (google does this)

-F2P games  get no extra benefits

-No discounts

-No subscription to stuff like Netflix

-Limit video capture to 5 minutes (for example)

-Limit social features like Streaming

-No cloud Streaming of full games unles bought seperatly or if you are PSPLus member (like Gaikai originally did )

-No monthly free games.

-No added "Personalized" options in profile, such as being a mod in your own video Stream

-No Betas and other community features such as PS Plus only member chat rooms and streams

there is a lot of ways to make people WANT to get a PS Plus, but removing online play is not one of them, Sony is being greedy and mandating this on people so that they would pay the Gaikai guys, if it wasn't for them things might have been different.
