Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo will not pursue muliplats, they are looking for exclusive content

For those of you who don't know, during today's ND, Nintendo announced a new exclusive Sonic game called Sonic: Lost Worlds. They also said they had a strong partnership with Sega and that we should expect more announcements in the future (specifically mentioning the Sonic franchise). It's known that Sega also had exclusive Sonic games for the Wii (all of them bad except for Colors), but this proofs the point that Nintendo and Sega relations are probably stronger than ever. Yakuza 1 & 2 HD were also announced for the Wii U

This is a trend Nintendo has been doing since the launch of the Wii U: Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, Shin Megami x Fire Emblem, publishing Lego City and Monster Hunter in Europe. The same thing can be said about the 3DS with Monster Hunter 4 for example.

I mentioned this before but it's clear that Nintendo strategy this gen is to get exclusive games via partnerships with 3rd party companies. Imo this is best thing Nintendo could do.

So far it seems it's only been Japanese companies, but maybe Nintendo will make some other partnerships with western 3rd parties (they seem to already have a good partnership with Ubisoft, but no big exclusive games so far, aside of ZombiU).

Makes more sense than chasing games most people will buy on rival systems.
Exclusives move consoles, multiplats not so much.

Saying any company doesn't care about multiplats is absolute nonsense. That's all I have to say.

I think they do care about multi-platform content. It would be foolish to not care. It's not like they're going to tell Activision "no thanks" for CoD. However, getting exclusive content is important for any console, as it differentiates your product.

That being said, if it does turn out that they aren't trying to convince or entice multi-platform developers, then they're making a big, big mistake. It does make me wonder how much effort they've put in on that front compared to Sony or Microsoft. If they aren't really trying then they're doing their customers a disservice.

Maybe the correct word is "pursue" multiplats. Nintendo will simple not going to invest money in getting a multiplat game, they would rather spend that money on partnerships. For example: for Nintendo it will be much more important to have Kingdom Hearts 3 as an exclusive than GTA 5 as multiplat. In both cases moneyhatting needs to be involved and if Nintendo can only choice one it's obvious which one they are going to take.

It proves nothing. Yakuza 1&2 HD is already on PS3, and Sega is planning as much PS3 games as WiiU ones + 5 Vita games (not to mention their still unknown next gen plans). It's just clever Nintendo PR...

And generally speaking, every multiplat game that doesn't come to WiiU is one more reason to pick a Sony/Micosoft system over the former. And that's going to be a lot of reasons.

Errr ... Nintendo has been doing publisher partnerships for like 15 years now.

Resident Evil exclusivity, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, F-Zero GX, Star Fox Assault, Soul Calibur 2, Mario in SSX Tricky and NBA Street, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. this isn't anything new.

GameCube actually probably had the strongest Nintendo-third party partnerships.

They do care about multiplats since they made a big point of the Wii U being able to play all those PS3/360 games ("check that box" right Reggie?), they're just not getting all the multi-plats they were hoping for.

Changed the tittle for clarity. Nintendo will prefer to have an exclusive (or time exclusive) game than a multiplat. I will keep using the same example, Nintendo prefers Kingdom Hearts 3 exclusivity than GTA V multiplat.

And that's one of the points, Nintendo is ignoring the strategy they did with the Wii and are returning to the GC days, looking for games rather than waiting for 3rd parties to make them.

i have a feeling alot of these partnership games are going to end up being shitty spin-offs, like crystal bearers for wii. But, i hope i'm wrong. exclusive content is exciting. I loved no more heroes and madworld for wii. I guess what i'm trying to say is that it's going to suck to be able to play resident evil revelations on a particular platform, when i know i won't get to play resident evil 7 ( or 5 and 6 for that matter) on that same platform. However, if nintedo can get some more fresh exclusive IP's like madworld (except they actually sell) then that would be awesome!

Yakuza has never left Sony consoles, proving that there's some sort of agreement between Nintendo and Sega. Monster Hunter started the same way, and look where it is now.
