Forums - Website Topics - Should petty feuds be met with moderations?

You all know what I'm talking about. The guy who mentions other users by name in the most irreleavnt of situations. The guy calling out another user because he plays on a competing platform. The 2 guys who argue for pages and pages and lead to the thread becoming extremely off-topic.

Should these "minor" offenses be met with greater moderation? They lead to pointless arguments and a decrease in quality. The longer these issues go unmoderated, the bigger the feud gets and the more aggressive these people become. I say that these kinds of people are unnecessary to this website and add nothing to the discussion. To do this we might need some site improvement such as:

-The ability to ignore other users
-The ability to unfollow a thread and not get notifications when a user replies to you

These 2 additions would greatly improve the forums and lead to less bans which means less work for mods! But until these new features get added(they likely never will) mods should give out bigger bans or frequent warnings for people who attack other users. That's where most of these bans come from. Petty feuds between users.

This past week I've had at least 3 different users attack me and get banned for it. And these are only the ones who crossed that line. There are a few more who managed to avoid moderation while still carrying on with their mostly 1-sided feuds.

You already have the ability to ignore users. You also have the ability to not follow threads. You were born with those choices.

I'll go ahead and bite since you specifically mention people getting banned and its on topic

You seem to be goading people into arguments a lot lately with the intentions of getting them into trouble. So perhaps to amswer your question how about you stop iniating these "petty feuds" and no one will risk getting banned. Seems to be the logical choice and the best for the community

If the people who are doing it get banned isn't that proof that the moderation does not need changing?

Because this thread is about me, Im going to tell the people of VGChartz a short story.

Are you ready people? Here goes!

The Tale of Heroes, Wizards, Webs and Timetravel

Once upon a time, there was a thread on VGChartz about the negativity directed towards Microsoft regarding some rumors about the next generation of Xbox.

While a lot of people thought the negativity was odd, some thought it was completely deserved. One of these people was VGKing. He had good reasons to think this. Why shouldnt he? Hes allowed an opinion, right? If he thinks bad rumors are horrible and anti-consumer, then thats what he thinks!

Alas there was a problem. A brave, vigilant man, the Hero of our story, remembered the times when VGKing thought rumors were stupid and shouldnt be listened to. He thought negative stuff could be turned positive! The said hero confronted VGKing about his past actions. The past actions which were coincidentally about Sony's PlayStation 4.

Thats right! In less than 6 Months VGKings opinion on rumors had changed quite considerably! ... Or did they? No. They didnt.

"It was different!" he said, as he protested against Hero.

Hero was not having any of it. He couldnt be fooled so easily. His assault was relentless. Like a man obsessed with justice, his hammer of truth kept crashing down until eventually, VGKing submitted and went back in time to alter events. He backtracked, hoping he could find a way out of the web created by his own being. The web, my friends, is not forgiving.

WIth a mighty crash, Hero, along with the wizard walsufnir, finally put an end to VGKings shenanigans with time travel of their own! It was mighty, it was swift, it was the truth.

VGKing wept. He had enough. As he retreated, you could hear the tiny whimpers of "Petty feud" and "One sided"...

The Heroes of Justice and Truth were victorious.

This was a true story.

I want to build on to what Ben said. VGKing you seem to be at the core of a nice chuck of these petty wars. Alot of them are started by you or aleast fanned. Alot of your post are just agressive, irritating( anything involving Nintendo) or cringe worthy( When your incredible biased gets in the way) or..just looking for fight( about 90%). Take a step back to re evaluate your post style.

Nope.

Sometimes you need to search for the root cause and fix your own issues.

Yeah I read that thread. Was awesome. VGking got owned.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

If you can't ignore a member just by, you know, ignoring them, then you might want to step back from the internet. Really, it's quite easy to ignore people on the internet. I'm sure you do it in real life all the time.

Also, Moderators should really include themselves in other members "feuds." These members are obviously discussing for a reason and (if they haven't completely de-railed a thread) shouldn't really be bothered. A forum is for discussion and disagreement. Why aren't people used to this already?
