Forums - Gaming Discussion - I just got Dishonored....

By your family?

Yeah I have it played the first mission and haven't touched it since.

So, you are saying, you actually LITERALLY got dishonored?

Sounds rather unpleasant :D

Though not whole-heartedly, I can get behind what this thread is about. The game is good for a first attempt, as we hear so often, but as a stealth game , it has one glaring shortcoming : the blink ability. Anyone who enjoys stealth games in general will know that they usually involve a LOT of pattern memorization. With the blink, you can get behind an enemy from a position of cover instantaneously. This makes it extremely gamer friendly, but a bit of a failure as a stealth game. I wont comment on the story, cause im a huge fan of the Hitman series, and they are notoriously thin on plots, but while playing Hitman, i dont care about the plot, since I just have too much fun eliminating my targets each mission with a silent assassin rating. No such joy in Dishonored, im afraid. It can definitely get better with iterations but i think with the first game, people were just too hyped with it being a new IP from Bethesda, to really scrutinise it.

I don't get it? :o
The game is awesome and so is the art of the game :)
i liked it so much it's one of my few platinums

Do you try to just kill things? Instead of trying to play stealthily and just abusing the blink mechanic. I found that more fun. It's too short though. I found it worse than all the thief games, or Deus Ex Games (well tied with invisible war), but I still thought it was a great game.

I find it hard to believe that a person who likes Splinter Cell, Thief, Deus Ex etc would find this game bad. Dishonored is a fantastic game. Its pretty much the above games, but with teleportation... how can you not like it.

Seriously, Chandler. The whole negative attitude is quite annoying, It's not just about games. It's how you respond to other people as well. You might not see it, but you come off as very defensive most of the time. I found badgenome's comment funny, even though I've never played the game and have no idea whether it's any good.

I thought the game was fantastic. Does it actually count as a pure stealth game though? I thought the abilities made the game more than a pure stealth game. The sheer variety of ways to get past/kill people using the numerous abilities meant you had a whole host of ways to play through each level.

The story was a fairly simple revenge plot with a few points of betrayal added in for good measures but wasn't bad by any stretch. The narrative could have been improved (especially nearer the end) but I felt the level design more than made up for the plot holes. The world and art style were also built superbly; it's an incredibly good base for sequels.

I've yet to even look into this game but I wanted to say...

This thread is the definition of "Escalating quickly."
OT: Going off your OP I would say that you either got a mucked up copy or this game is just badly made.
