Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Disappointed by NSMBU

RolStoppable said:

Last week I bought a Wii U, because Amazon.de was selling the Premium Set for €310. Naturally, I bought NSMBU along with it.

The first thing I did after setting the system up was playing NSMBU. I did this before downloading the day 1 system update like any real gamer would. I was pleasantly surprised by the opening cinematic, because unlike in the other NSMB games, this time around Peach's Castle would be the goal instead of the starting point. I also liked the look of the continuous world map which reminded me of Super Mario World.

It took me a couple of days to finish the game, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I played all the levels to get to Peach's Castle, kicked Bowser's butt and saved Princess Peach. But...

I kinda knew that this would be how the game ends. It left me wondering why I was playing the game when I knew the outcome of the story. What was the point? What was the damn point?

Did anybody else feel let down by the game's story?

The gameplay? Was the game not enjoyable? Did you not feel a sense of accomplishment when you beat the game?

I believe you, Rol.

i sense something sarcastic heh

I was expecting more CGI.

I'm surprised anyone bought NSMBU for its story @.@

What has made NSMBU special in our house is it is one of the few games worth playing that involves the whole family. My wife and 9 year old son play through the levels as a tag team but I takeover for my son on levels, areas or bosses they cannot clear. Our 5 year old plays on the gamepad where he assists, sometimes to the detriment, by slowing down, or taking out obstacles, and spotting secret areas and triplr ups.

The story is so much of a let down to me, I haven't even finished the game. Only the first world... its just like watching the same movie again. I know Darth Vader is Luke's father... I just can't do it again.

This is why I've instead focused on ZombiU and Trine2. Just finished Trine2 btw and what a refresh that was to have an original story not centered on saving a princess... oh wait.. DAMN yes it was also saving a fucking princess.

What the fuck is wrong with these high class bitches? Always needing to be saved in every medium too. Snow fucking White, Fiona the damn ogre half-breed, Zelda elf whore, and so on.

Why can't the player just want to play out some damn genocide and you don't need the princess to save? Isn't it enough to just curb stomp some damn weird looking turtles and owls? Dammit, now I got to go watch porn to calm down. Thanks rol.

I know what you mean, Mario's plot has been getting stale for years now. Nintendo should really look to 3rd parties more to figure out how to write a good story for Mario.

You played without updating? Dude, there's that day one patch that fixes the story. It's got aliens and shit.
