Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Ballmer: Surface RT sales

Bomba, below expectations.

If they are already saying modest sales in public that is a very bad sign. Downplaying success is the last thing they will ever do, so if the marketing spin is "modest" sales that really means poor.

Actually i'd argue modest usually means mediocre.  Which i'd put a step over poor.

Generaly I think PR is always one step above what the sales really are more or less.

Numbers thrown everywhere - Huge Success

Huge Success - Success

Success - Modest Sales

Modes sales - Average/Medicore

Average-Poor/below average

Below Average-huge bomb.

Huge bomb/disapointment-put some money aside to get it 75% off within a couple weeks.

Yea but

mod·est/ˈmädəst/ Adjective:

1. Unassuming or moderate in the estimation of one's abilities or achievements.

2. (of an amount, rate, or level of something) Relatively moderate, limited, or small.

So using the PR is one step above reality scale and assuming moderate would be at expectations, modest would mean below expectations or less. Seeing as modest means moderate or less.

@TheVoxelman on twitter

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

well personally I am waiting for the real surface to come out no tthis dumbed down version.

Not surprising considering the price of them. Once they start dropping in price I'll think about getting one (if some other company doesn't come out with a cheaper, better one first).

this is SHOCKING! there is a certain person who literally would suck M$ D*** who will come in here and defend this and try and makes digs at the iPad.. can't wait

Reported.

OT

I will move from my iPad when the better tablets from Windows8 hit the market.

There is no doubt Windows8 on tablets will be a success.  Zero doubt and zero chance it wont be massive.

Its the prime period of the year to launch a new device, it had one of the biggest marketing pushes ever, yet sales are still modest.

You trully bealive thyat other manufacturers entering and a more expensive device will make it an inbstant boom?

I for one, am sceptical.

Everyone will be used to Windows8 within a year.  When they see the Samsung, Sony, Dell, HP, MS and other tablets sporting the same interface many will go for it.

And both Apple and Google will stay away, and let MS dominate the market? I dont know, Im expecting heavy fights for marketshare, and the other two companies have a huge headstart...

Launch of Surface RT - a staged release only at select stores.

And we already know the RT has failed and failed big time. It's the new Zune. No one wants it.

Slimebeast said:

6 months from now no one here on VGC will be talking about it because it's declared dead by then with less than 5% marketshare.

(the <5% in the last post refers to total marketshare of all Windows tablets)

When people don't give the actual figures, its normally pretty bad.

remind me of this one company who never gives out npd number

Certainly does

Android and iOS will still be the biggest. I'm thinking of buying a Sony Vaio Duo 11, first W8 PRO tablet

Good.. let RT have a quick dead and let PRO shine..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I view it in the same light as music and cell phone market. People are willing to stick with Microsoft OS on computers but they don't really care for Microsoft in the other markets. Zune was pretty much a failure. I believe Windows phones will fail too. Their tablets might not completely fail but I don't see them passing 30% market share in tablet market for at least 7-10 years. Right now competitors offer better product for the price.
