Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Did you know Donkey Kong in DK Country Returns is a 2D character?

I always thought this is a 3d model but it seems it just looks like one. Retro really thought about every little detail because RARE did the same back on the SNES.

Looks like 3d

But is 2d

What do you think?

Paper Donkey Kong confirmed.

Quite clever performance trick. Never noticed.

Mind = blown.

No, but seriously, I would not have guessed he was 2D in a month of Sundays after playing that game!

Very clever then. Never noticed.

I thought thats what a 2.5D platformer was, a 2D design made to look 3D

As far as I know in terms of videogames  2.5d is usually a three dimensional video game restricted to two dimensional movement/gameplay etc

Otherwise Donkey Kong Country for the SNES would also be 2.5d right?.

wow...so DK is 2D but the world is 3D. i kinda figured both would be the same

We did see the 3D model during the cutscenes, so we all assumed, but pretty cool.

Retro did a good job on the character since it didn't look as fake as the old ones.

You say tomato, I say tomato

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

just give me a donkey kong country in my 3ds already

Really cool technique, nobody can tell the difference and probably saves some memory.

But build that 3D Kong, Retro. First, Wii U can handle it. Second, you'll need it for DK 64 2!
