For those wondering, a 2.5 D platformer is a game where characters can move into the fore or background BUT they are limited to movement on a 2D plane.

A good example of this style of gameplay is Kirby 64. In that game, you stay on a strict left/right path, but that path does move into the foreground and background to give you an illusion of depth. DKCR on the other hand is a strictly 2-D platformer.

The game starts to "BUG" when you move the camera around Donkey Kong and then it has no Idea where to draw the character. Because of this, Donkey Kong strats to "float" around depending on the angle and height you look at him  this is why it looks like he is inside the stone.(you can see his shadow is still on top of that stone thing)

It is a 2d character because its just some sort of flat image that becomes thinner and thinner the more you move to the side untill it gets invisible. 

 



that game had amazing visuals and was more fun than I thought it was going to be, definitely see why it's sold so well the last two years



 

Never played, despite i found the visual style very cool.

btw: This 2.5D thing, you know.... Raycasting is considered 2.5D because of using 2D maps, and create a quasi 3D Environment like in Doom, or Duke Nukem 3D (sic!). I link the German Article cause there are no pictures in the English one for any reason.

What you guys are talking about are Sprites in an 3D environment, like i.e. many Objects in Super Mario 64 (Trees etc.)

Question? Am I the only one who does not want to collect everything in the game with 5 different characters again when they do make Donkey  Kong Galaxy?

No, this is incorrect.

2.5D: gameplay in an otherwise three-dimensional video game that is restricted to a two-dimensional plane, e.g. Clockwork Knight, Einhander and, yes, DKCR.

(The term is also sometimes used to describe games like Doom and Duke Nukem.)

Look at the blurry textures VS the clear polygonal models. The screens in the OP probably use an older emulator, I think it was a bug/issue that was fixed later on.
