The issue in the emulator was caused by the programmers not realizing this at the time. They fixed it so that the emulator would re-render the sprites in native 1080p, instead of zooming in on the 480p stuff (blurry results).

So DK is a 3D model, but the game renders him as a 2D sprite. I wonder why they did this though... I guess cuz it's a 2D side scroller, although NSMBWii didn't do that.

Soundwave had a point that they would've used a CG model if they were actually doing it pre-rendered (like DKC SNES did it).
