Why would 1 million be a flop? Used to be reaching 1 million sales was a mark of reasonable success. Certainly a mark of profitability for 80% of games. If it makes 1 million then it will be a satisfactory result. I think word of mouth will decide its fate. If people generally like it and tell their friends its great then it will have good legs. I think it will get hammered by critics and get a low 70s on Meta / Game Rankings and that won't help its sales none.

Personally, I think it all depends on what you were hoping for the game to do. Super Smash Bros. Brawl style numbers? Of course not. 'Sony lesser exclusive' style numbers (around 1-2m)? Probably.

USA seem to love their Smash Bros. anyway, so they're probably all writing to their Senator in disgust about how much of a rip-off this game is and definitely not pre-ordering it.

I'm sure it'll sell decently through the holidays. And we have no European/Japanese numbers, so I think it's way too early to call anything about this game.

But you get a free Vita version with it.....

And on another note, I know you're transfixed by how badly PSABR is doing at the moment (for whatever reason) but there's way more stuff going on in that pre-order chart:

Resident Evil 6 tracking oddly low for such an established franchise - has everyone finally been put off by the new direction the series has taken since 4?

Medal of Honor: Warfighter also seems low for part of EA's yearly shooter plan. Did everyone get put off by the version 2 years ago?

Why is Madden on PS3 tracked at twice as much than the 360 version, especially in 360 country? Are these numbers in fact just a load of bullshit?

i think preorders/sales will increase because the "buy it on ps3 and get it on vita for free" will attract some people, advertisement will be successful for the game because maybe many still don't even know about it outside the internet gaming world and i also think that's a game which will sell over the long run whatever this will mean with next console in 2013 or 2014.

I'm thinking can PS All Starts beat halo 4 in japan(both release in same week)
yesterday MS Japan say halo 4's pre-order more than Halo 3 about 1.5 times

It will not be a flop. And heres is why

1. it will get huge marketing ( this will be an IP Sony will really pushinh hard to get popular)
2. it will definitaly get bundled
3. its cathcing for a younger audience too ( not only the god old sony fans) so this will sell good during christmas time ( like an Little Big Planet 2 for an example)
4. it will have legs as most of the PS3 exclusives

So in the end it will make about 1,5-2,5 Millions which whould be enough to get a fanbase. But it will grow next gen. But if you are expecting Super Smas Bros numbers than it will be a flopp.

It is sad but I think it will flop. But I hope not.

It's not out for three months, and has yet to receive any marketing. 16k and 1000 per week are absolutely fine.
