Frank Darabont he doesn't have a huge resume but every time he works with something written by Stephen King it turn out great The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile (which is extremely underrated by most critics) and The Mist. I come back with someone with a bigger resume later. Also agree with you on John Carpenter, Halloween and The Thing are two of my all time favorite movies.

I wouldnt know what Frank Darabont directed if you asked me, but the fact he directed those 3 awesome movies and I never knew that makes him very underrated in my books.

Im surprised Michael Mann is getting votes...I mean he had an amazing string of movies in the 90s but as of late I dont recall anything memorable.

I love Micheal Bay, I don't think he gets enough credit and is unjustly overlooked just because the high amount of action in his films

Neill Blomkamp from district 9 and upcoming movie elysium.

I'm going to mention two that are no longer with us and their best movies. Franklin J Schaffner, Planet of the Apes (1968), Patton (1970) and Papillon (1973) and Sam Peckinpah, Major Dundee (1965), The Wild Bunch (1969), Straw Dogs (1971) and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974).

Duncan Jones, I wont say he's underrated since he only directed the cult classic Moon and the box office hit Source Code, but he's a upcoming director you should look out for. He was even considered to direct the superman reboot before Zack Snyder took his place.
