Forums - Gaming - Which gaming series need to die or decline in the future?

Hello vg charts members. This is a question i want to ask you. Please give a little explanation why you think Series XYZ need to decline.

Heres my list.

1. The Call of Duty , modern warfare Series:

The reason is simply. This series destroys gaming. It destroys every innovation in gaming simply because other gaming titles will not have a chance to sell well or sell as much as they deserves because gamers trending to buy the same game series over and over again insteat of trying something new.

Also a 5 hour long single player campagne  with the same game egine again and again is not worth the 60 dollars.

2. Mario Kart. Yeah Mario Kart is a great game but is it as good that it deserve over 20 million of sales. I think not. Let other fun racers have some market.

I really hope that Sonic All Stars Racing 2 and Little big Planet Karting steal some thunder from future mario kart titles.

3. Super Mario games. The same here. mario games stand for quality thats true. And Mario games also show that the jump and run genre isnt dead. But there are also some very great 2D and 3D jump and runs that deserve more marklet share and more buzz. ( Rayman origins, Little Big Planet for an example)

4. Medal of Honor. This series will very likely go the same path as Call of Duty. If its get nearly as big as Call of Duty than we will have the yearly shit again and again.

5. Crappy casual sport games. I think its obvious why. No need for an explanation.

Since Call of Duty is the only series ive played out of these lot. I would comment on it.

Yes I do agree with you my brother. This series KILLS innovation. OTHER games HAS to TRY to be COD-Like just to gain some tiny market share. This fact alone breaks my heart as I am a passionate FPS player on the 360. I have seen games like BF3 and Crysis 2 differ from their direct preceedors to become more "COD-LIKE". Specifically BF3.

Yes, I do enjoy BF3. I love it and I have played it to death. (120 hours+). I live and breathe BF3 pro in me. However, I was particularly disappointed to find out that it has become more COD-like compare to past BF games. In past BF games, for example, you can fairly exchange fire fight with other players. But this was not in the case with BF3. When an enemy suprises you or you dont reload fast enough. YOU WILL GET KILLED. Something I have never experinced before in and games in this series.

Im sorry but this is quite saddening.

Yay!!!

I agree with Call of Duty. The series is getting ridiculous now and needs a period of decline or at least a break.

Other than that, I'm not sure. Maybe Final Fantasy although critically it's done very poorly in recent years, the sales are high enough that it doesn't really matter too much for Square.

Maybe non-essential Mario games/Mario as a character. I think the main games still deserve success as they're all very good, but I'd like to see Nintendo stop shoving his face on every game in every genre.

Now this may come as a surprise to most of you, I'm sure you weren't expecting anyone to say this but...

Call of Duty. I wouldn't go as far to say it destroys gaming, in fact there are ways in which it helps the industry, it's helped put gaming into the mainstream for example. But I do wish it would decline in popularity so that other developers wouldn't insist on borrowing heavily from COD when creating a multiplayer experience. I feel like the only multiplayer focused console FPS that hasn't been "codified" is Battlefield, and I'm even starting to have doubts about that series since it's been clear for some time that EA are putting it in direct competition with COD.

Amen to that. Call of Duty steals so much marketshare from other games.

the problem i have with the OPs line of thinking in general is that there is no way to be sure that people would play something else if these games did not exist. Would people start to play SonicAllStars or Modnation in lieu of MK?? Would people play another FPS instead of COD?? would they play Rayman instead of Mario?? Some how I really doubt it, it would be nice, but wishful thinking at best.

OT I just think COD doesnt need to be a yearly franchise, every other year sure. BUt I cant stand the IW/MW games so as far as im concerned i treat it as its not a yearly franchise. Casual sports games or what people like to play nothing we can do about that

Mario Galaxy alone warrents the existens of that game series.

Nuff said.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

World of Warcraft and DOTA

The whole first person shooter genre.

I just never got why its so popular. Every game has the same gameplay with a different face... i dont understand how people dont get tired. I got bored of FPS' when i played my first 2 back on the PC (and they are pretty bad to play on controllers aswell).

I would like to see the rise of the MMORPG genre on consoles though. I believe that the tablet controller and hard drive on the WiiU gives it the perfect handling support for such games.

Final Fantasy series should be top of the list. Milked franchise that has kept on going downhill since it peaked with FF7, 15 years ago. Square Enix has turned the FF series to mud. Too many remakes of old FF games and the recent FF games have sucked big time.
