All they need to do is add an extra analog nub, and I would buy one tomorrow. I'll be waiting until that time or probably until Bravely Default releases.

Better battery life, smoother shape, Start and Select buttons below the face buttons where they belong, more built in storage space, a better web browser, Automatic wifi connection, 3g/4g compatibility... the possibilities are endless.
I personally don't need a second analog stick. That said, I want it if more games come out that benefit from it. So far, the only game that seems to benefit greatly is Metal Gear Solid 3D, a remake.

I want an actual second nub on the 3DS without a side on peripheral.
All I need them to do is Make a better Battery Life, and make the bottom screen not scratch the top... Other than that I don't need anything else... I don't mind not having a second nub... not really needed in my opinion

What I'm hoping for with a 3DS upgrade is a bigger upper 3D screen and a second circle pad added. That's pretty much all I want and if that happens and it's to my liking then I'm on board
.

Which it does seem to do. Still I want something like that actually embeded in the system. Forget annoying screws and whatnot.
I have not had the scratching problem. What happens? |
Also keep in mind I don't have a game that needs the second nub yet, i imagine i will need it when i get KH3D and KI: uprising so yeah
WHen you close your 3DS and have it in your pocket for to long, or pressure on it then the top screen gets scratched by the bottom on the sides of it. if you place a clot inbetween them then there is no worries, but other than that, it slowly digs into your tops screen

Well, there's also the issue of the missing second circle pad on the original design, but putting one on an XL version is easy as pie. An interesting experiment with any redesign would be to also launch a version that has the position of the d-pad and the left circle pad switched around. I am pretty sure that there are plenty of people who are mostly interested in playing classic games and 2D titles on a handheld, so putting the d-pad into the natural spot would make the 3DS much more appealing to these people. Just because it's feasible to run 3D gameplay on a handheld doesn't mean that it has to be done. |
3DS XL has been tossed around a lot and I have to say that it sounds like the most fesible rendition. It would make the battery life better because they could fit in a bigger one and also it would calm the people complaining about how small the 3DS's screens are. The only thing is the 3D. I thought Nintendo said something like the 3DS's screen size is made so that Glasses 3D viewing is possible? It would be nice to have a bigger screen but not if it compromises the 3D.
Good idea about the control switch up. :)
is it just me or do your hands get sore holding it after playing it a while? Not that I mind, I try to switch my grip every so often. Maybe by adding a second circle pad and making it more ergonomic would be wonderful... But I am still satisfied with it currently.

They should definitely do an XL version.
The current small size is great for portability.
So, people have a choice whether they want portability or larger size for comfort.
Dreaming big I'd say a wider viewing angle for the 3D effect. Motion controls + 3D = headache for me :(
3DS XL for sure though.
