It was obvious to me the demo did not represent the games graphics. It was nothing more than testing the gamers waters to see how the online would work.

Even the poorest quality Crysis 2 singleplayer video will show you this.

More importantly, The media who have played the game are positive so far. And if the rumours are true, other big media reviewers will state some big things.

I hope so, I expect it to be my fav FPS of the year thus far. I just think much of what was hyped may end up as "overhype".

It is possible that CryEngine3 may go over peoples heads. In that the engine is doing alot more than other engines in terms of realtime calculations all at once. Where other games confine areas or use tricks for certain things ( like cars in the streets being unmovable, so the physics engine doesnt have to worry about them ). In Crysis 2 even the cars in the streets that litter the place are movable by the player. It's a pretty amazing feat what Crytek have achieved.

I just haven't been impressed as much as I'd like to be. I'm not seeing more on screen than other titles and I'm not seeing the groundbreaking visuals promised by Crytek (specifically about the PS3 version).

What I've seen from the single player undoubtedly looks good, but not at the quality that was promised (at least, not yet). The full retail version isn't out, so the verdict is still up in the air. I'm just going to get it on the 360 to be safe.

Thats cool. :)

I'm fairly confident though in terms of technicality CryEngine 3 is ahead of other engines. It's the first time anything like this has been attemtpted on consoles. The level of Realtime calculations I mean.

But what exactly are you talking about? The only thing I've really seen that's impressive is the lighting and even then there are other titles that have comparable (if not better) lighting. The amount on-screen isn't even anything mind blowing, it just looks really good.

Everything. From physics on all objects, to Full realtime Global Illumination. Realtime bullet tracking, ( bouncing of a concrete block and changing direction ) to multiple light sources. Crytek stated on stage at E3 last year if you remember quite openly: I think the quote went something like this

" unlike other console engines this gen, we are doing everything in realtime. No smoke and mirrors. Everything you see is fully realtime. "

No developer to this day has challenged Crytek on this matter at all.

Crytek said a lot between 2009 and now and some of it may just blow up in their face. Do you also recall them saying the PS3 version would be the better version of the two console iterations, I sure do.

As for all your descriptions, I'll be buying the game and will have a proper judgment then. But as I've said, from what I've seen, it isn't mind blowing.

This is a fire fight video. No spoilers. But impressive to say the least.

It's 360 code. It's the mode where the devs test the 360 platform code. It's the same code you'll get on your 360 disc. Right down to the texture quality.

Digital Foundry said that many of the innovations that Crytek is claiming to have made were already done by Bungie in Halo: Reach. So I expect comparisons will be made between the two.

I thought that Crytek was developing for each console seperately and now it 's pretty obvious that the PS3 got a port, my question is, is Rage being developed for each console or will the PS3 get a gimped port. It seems like in order to fully take advantage of the PS3 archeticture it needs it's own development cycle.

I still have complete faith in Carmack that Rage is being developed separately per platform.

except that it's not as has been said the Mega textures the game uses take so much time and effort to make that they are only making one texture pass, that means that all three versions of Rage will have the same textures and terrain geometry. The differences in the versions will just be the draw distance, effects, AA etc tweaks needed to get the game to run at 60 frames per seccond on each platform.

That's not to say the game will look bad on any platform and you are garrentead 60fps and exelent textures which ever platform.

^ ^ I've seen that. No doubt it's impressive, just not anything mind blowing.

Except if that is actual console gameplay it has Killzone 3 beat. Sorry to burst your bubble.

IF that is what the 360 version actually looks like then you can call the graphics war over. That destroys anything I've seen on console including anything on the PS3. I guess I will be buyinng this game to see if this is real or not.

Do you want to see how the 360 version looks? Here:

As I said, looks nothing special. Its the official 360 version running on a 360 shown off by crytek whereas everything else is running on the PC with leaked version of the beta, with 360 settings turned on.
