Please don't be so argumentative when I have a valid point via the racer analogy.

how is it valid? It has nothing to do with the shooter genre. Its like saying I have 3 mangoes because I also have 3 apples, it doesnt work that way. There are different genres.

AussieGecko; Killzone and Bulletstorm have basically the same demographic and one is exclusive, there was never any doubt that Killzone would one-up Bulletstorm. Besides, Epic games aren't really at home on PS consoles like they are on MS consoles, look at Unreal Tournament 3 for instance, moved only 100k less on the 360 despite being PS3 timed exclusive for a whole year. Compare that to the PS3 versions of Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock which were 360 (and PC) first and then arrived on PS3, the 360 version of Bioshock moved well over three times as much and the PS3 version of ME2 is at roughly 1/10 of the 360's total sales after some time and won't stand a chance of ever crossing 750k imo. Multiplats simply move better on the 360 and Epic games aren't nearly as big in the PS3's best markets nor on the console and among the users themselves. I must admit that I didn't expect the Bulletstorm numbes to be quite as low as they are for the PS3 but that just shows the damage Killzone 3 has done shortterm.

I don't know, when I played the demo it was like I was playing something completely new. It wasn't just about finishing the demo it was about the way you did it. Its something new.

Killzone 3 yes seriously hampered the sales, but i think even the most negative person would have thought Bulletstorm wouldnt get as stomped on as it did by Killzone 3.

360 is kind of weird in that way, I don't know why the attach rates are damn good. Yes PS3 software sales are coming closer (an sometimes notching the 360) but for games in comparisons they do damn well on the 360.

Wow KZ3 helped the PS3 do some good work this week!

And software for the 3DS is lower then the actuall sales of the system...i wonder why anyone would buy a gaming system but not buy a game for it.

Software was undershipped. Publishers could barely get the games out in time, and 3DS in general did a lot better then expected. It's literally sold out in Japan, as is Prof Layton, and a couple other games.

Software was so undershipped that many games didn't even meet pre-orders.

I thought it was confirmed that 3DS only solde 374,000 of its shipment of 400,000?

Microsoft worked damn hard with 3rd parties in the year they had alone on the market (and after the PS3 and Wii launched too of course) and have gotten some really great deals out of their PC roots on their console. Snagging Assassin's Creed (which turned out to be huge) and Final Fantasy were solid gold. And for the first couple of years this gen, almost every single multiplat was better on the 360 and most developers used it as lead platform for multiplat titles, something which can also be attributed partly to the 360's more streamlined and PC-esque architecture.

The foothold it has gained in the market and the selling power it has on software is something that has stuck through this gen, even GTA which was always considered more or less a Playstation franchise last gen sold more on the 360. I also think certain titles in certain genres gain more sales on the 360 (Bulletstorm being one of them) due to the strongest markets it has (US and UK) which generally buy more of certain genres.

All in all, Microsofts conquest of massive 3rd party support coming from a disappointing gen with low sales both in hardware and software is among the most impressive feats this gen. The headstart, architecture and constant negotiatons and pressure on 3rd parties were all very good decisions, hardware failure rates be damned. In the long run, it seems to have paid off.

Now, what I'm most excited to see is what kind of support Kinect will get and how many truly great titles we can expect for this device.

hmm I cant say I disagree with any of that kudos

And yes Kinect support will be very interesting after Gunslinger, if it is as good as I have been hearing it is the game to wait for I think... for that kind of game anyway

I think being aware of fatal hardware problems before release and releasing anyway for business gains is a pretty big betrayal of the consumer, but I guess if only business bottom lines are being considered regardless of any moral obligations, then yes, they did the smartest thing.

Also, while making all these deals shows pretty good foresight, when you have unlimited funds, start a year in advance, and are known to be large underdogs, they better have gotten them done.  It was damn near necessary.

Yeah the RROD should have been thoroughly tested, in fact the RROD... I mean they have a sign for it, it was obviously known to them it clearly was more rampant then their testing was though... which was horrible for them, but with the 2 year extended free warranty for RROD's they basically admitted  they made a mistake imo

Realistically though only a few companies could have jumped in when Ms did, and ms was probably the best opportunity and they still screwed up the first time. Now they have contacts in the business, if they had these contacts at the start when they released the original xbox, the ps2 wouldnt have run away so much imo. I could of course be wrong though.

Just goes to show how hard getting into this business is.  One of the most powerful company's in the world with so much money, and even they had to cut corners to get an edge somewhere. Tough business.

While I don't feel they've done too much for the games side of things, they have my praise for speeding along the online aspect of gaming.  They definitely made Sony step up their game in that respect.  Cheers.

And thanks for not getting all defensive about my perhaps stern remarks, a lot of people would have flown off the handle, but you were rational.  You win 10 internetz.  :D

lol why are they arguing over Bulletstorm vs Killzone 3 both did poorly imo. 48 million users and only .5 million cared enough to buy it. and the same for bulletstorm maybe sony should invest some money into a game that will attract the number of people that Call of Duty does or Gears of war or Halo. Im tired of seeing 3 million copies sold for a exclusive ps3 game.

That's what I've been saying, that if sony wants to overtake ms in total console sales, they need better exclusives that will actually sell 6 million plus like Halo and Gears.  They have some great games like Uncharted and Infamous, but neither of those have sold enough to be considered serious console movers.

Well, they must be doing something right.  They cut the gap by ~ 4 mil in only about a years time.  Right now the shipped gap is less than 3 mil, so I don't think they necessarily NEED 6 mil plus sellers to get ahead of MS.  They just need to keep offering varied exclusives like they have been.  Some will sell big, some won't.  But in the end, there will be something for everyone.  And I think there may be a good chance that Sony outsells/ships MS by the end of fiscal year 2011.
