Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 smoothing beyond that of high-end PC graphics card

Yes yes... Go play some high end PC games then come back and tell me that your console can handle as many objects, and effect on high settings as a $400 PC.

Never compare a console to the PC. You will get splattered & left to rot under a bus. My Radeon 3850 makes Fallout 3 look like its playing on a XB720 or PS4 and that card is 2 generations old and I have at least 8 mods running that quadruple the number of enemies in game. Last I checked the PS3 had trouble maintaining 30fps in vanilla Fallout 3 at about medium PC settings.

then a game like killzone 2 or uncharted 2 would make your PC sweat.

bad comparsion, lousy port, of a PC developed game.

and killzone 2 dont have tiny maps, they are actually huge.

especially the desert

Uhm no, sorry to burst your bubble but Killzone 2 and Uncharted "areas" are puny by PC standards. Now let me hear another execuse like graphic quality > gameplay. Whatever thats your opinion. Unfortunatly we cannot run your games on the PC but Ive heard your flamebait before. Your opinion has no basis in logic whatsoever. What kind of machines do you think they used when they programmed the game to begin with? Where do you think the graphics were created? Hint, it was not on a PS3.

Anyway, this is why I compare a cross platform game & for the record, Fallout 3 was console based and dumbed down significantly for the PC just like Oblivion. Oblivion remains one of the most resented games on the PC by PC gamers because of how far it was dumbed down. Hell, even to this day Fallout 3 doesnt run properly for many people on the PC. Still think it was PC based?

The Cell tricks are starting to be used, look at games like Killzone and Uncharted 2, superb graphics, We don.t see this on multi platform games because they are 360 ports, So the code is not optimized for PS3 , its optimized for 360, The way you develop for those 2 consoles are totally different. Look what happened when they built a game first for PS3 being FF, it was finished for PS3 , Then they tried to port to 360, did not work they had to cut half the game out. The cell is capable of so much. Thats why Sony Exclusives look so far better then anything on 360. If this whole equality thing stoped and they built every game for PS3 and stopped thos 360 to PS3 port crap, the PS3 versions would blow everything else out of the water. 2010 we will continue to see hugh gains on the PS3, 360 graphics have been the same the last few years, its maxed out for the most part, Ps3 excludives with developers who know what the hell there doing will continue to make large steps, wait for GOD3 , GT5, Heavy Rain, Killzone 3 , resistance 3, infamous 2, all of these games will be graphic beasts.

Rant;

These threads are all the same. Nothing ever changes.

Each camp will support their own and no one can tell them any different.

U2 is regarded by many respected reviewers as the console graphics king.

Just because you may be anti-sony or PS3 doesn't change that.

You make hate a movie but that doesn't take away the oscars it has won, neither does the individual who won the oscar(s) care about most people's opinion.

I know the OP article mentioned the PC but getting into PC v console arguments are %^$&*.

"Everyday" a new graphics card and CPU is released for the PC so why compare it to a console that is stagnant for years and has hardware that is "outdated" even before it's release.
End rant;

OT: Both HD consoles are great but with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Having all that power that is embedded in the cell is great to talk about but unless this power is fully utilised it all amounts to toilet.

The x360 can produce better looking games than PS3 in the future if PS3 devs don't get to understand or tap into it's full potential.

Do PS3 owners have to wait 7-8years before they see what the cell is truly capable of?
If that's the case then both HD consoles are graphically pretty equal as it stands now and likely to be for a while yet.

One more rant;
This site doesn't cover PC hardware or software sales so why have a forum for PCs?
End of rant;

Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 would make a reasonably modern PC sweat? Arguably the PS3 has more CPU performance to throw at a anything but arguably they simply throw that extra performance at making the graphics look nicer whilst a PC has all it needs hanging off the PCI-E bus. Even a cheapo $99 card has what it takes to pummel the PS3 in 3D performance and that can be added to any PC with a PCI-E slot, no extra cords or power required.

Just as soon as you find me a $199 PS3 to play Call of Duty MW2. Also find me a $299 PS3 that you can type an essay on. Oh and find me a PS3 which comes with an HD display for under $500.

All you do is take a computer which is otherwise useful for other tasks and then pay an additional $99 for the ability to play modern 3D games on it. This computer may or may not have Blu Ray or any other features you deem to be required.
