Forums - Sales - Which will be the first to hit 50 million (HD consoles only)

were looking to decide this battle by around march 2011 from the looks of it, so we have massive games that will be released by then that we dont even know about, games that look amazing might flop, games that look average might be amazing...the only real information we have is the current trend as of now, which will roughly be a photo finish. but i dont think microsoft will accept a 3rd place finish this gen, they will lose money to hang on to that 2nd place.

Most of you seem to really over estimate MS wilingness to lose money.

The cheepest the xbox got was 150.

I'm not so sure that there are a ton of people just waiting for GT5 to come out, to buy a PS3.  IMO system selling games, released years after the debut of a system will cause a brief spike in sales, but not have a marked long-term effect.  That being said, the 360 is losing the value battle in the minds of "others" as it is: I agree that they need to make a price movement there.

I also agree that any price movement made will not be as extreme as the recent PS3 slim launch, and therefor will have nowhere near as large as an effect.

However (again IMO) if they battle to a virtual draw in "others" with a price cut, the losses in Japan will be basically offset by the gains in America, and therefore, the 360 will hit the 50M mark before the PS3.  All conjecture of course, but at least I've supported it with my opinion/analysis.

There are, they arent gamers they are car fanatics.  You wont find them here you will find them on car forums.

360 is losing the value battle in NA also, sales are way to close given the price disparity.  Others is nearing lost.  And Japan will wipe out the early launch lead 360 gained.

Regarding Car Fanatics lining up to buy a PS3, I guess we'll see soon, I don't share your optimism there, but that is what it is.

Regarding the PS3 vs 360 in America...the PS3 has been redesigned, has recieved a $100 price cut (at the minimum) AND has free online PLUS a blu-ray player.  All that, and it is currently slightly losing in sales to a system that has no redesign, no standard price-cut, and no high-def movie format, with on-line you have to pay for.  IF that is a loss for the 360, it's a loss Microsoft will take every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

People should wait for January,
if PS3 will continue to outsell x360 by 150k every week, then PS3 will catch x360 LTD sales somewhere in summer.

50$ pricecut for x360 is not enough.
And Natal is hit or miss.

MW2 bundle
Walmart Bundle.
Cutting ELite to 299 ($100 cut) and pro to 249 ($50cut)

MS are shelling out top $ to maintin sales with the PS3.  And its still a $100 cheeper bud, that is still a nice chunk of $ to shell out these days.  MS have done quite a lot to maintain Sales with the SLim in NA.  Seems a lot of you are blind to that.

You will see then buying PS3s casue i know iam there.  Alot of them refused to buy a PS3 for Prologue cause most saw it as a pay $40 for a demo.   They arent gamers like me, they see no reason to pick up a PS3 untill GT5.

It appears we will agree to disagree.  You state that a lot of "us" are blind to Microsofts response to Sony's cuts, yet seem blinded yourself to the drastic changes Sony made to get to this point.

Sony did good, cool we can agree on that.   MS can and will respond however.  You may place no faith in their ability to do that, and that's cool too, but that is your opinion, not fact.

My OPINION is that they will respond and have decent success doing so.

We actually agree some what.  I dont deny any changes Sony made, Slim is easy to notice as are their new ads and lower price duhh.

MS responed right away to the Slim with price cuts, but i don't see then doing very much more any time soon.  Especially seeing how Natal will come out next year, and it will cost extra $ right.

So if they cut 360 price before natal it will help sink it.  So obvios choice cut price for Natal release.  All the new buyers will buy a 360 with Natal right.  The cut will help push Natal right.  MS sure as hell wont cut price twice in 2010.  So how do you see any responce any time soon.

Also due to Sony having a juggernaut of a game coming, MS responce will not be a offensive to tip the sales in their favor but a responce for survival if the respond to it at all.  Iam guessing they will bet on Halo Reach to out do some of the damage GT5 is bound to do.  Leaving the cut for Natal pre xmas what not.

I agree MS won't cut prices until fall, in order to align for the Natal "relaunch". I think they'll be the only one to drop though, Nintendo and Sony will both only value add (games, controllers, HDD sizes, whatever).

Part of me wishes Microsoft was still going for the throat like they did from 2005-2008, but in the end profitability can probably be spun as the bigger victory.

Just seems like the deck is stacked a little to well in ms favor for 2010. The launch of natal, I'm guessing a 249 elite + natal package and a $149 arcade. I just don't see Sony being able to keep pace, I don't think Sony sales will decrease next year I just see a big boost for ms sales.

Pristine isn't a 360 supporter, so I hope you weren't quoting him as counting on "natal" as the big hope.

Your views on natal not withstanding, I'd pick the 360 to hit first.  PRICE drives this bandwagon IMO, and I think that MS is just milking profits right now before they announce the next price cut, spiking sales in the other direction in America/Others (Japan is a lost cause).

Price does drive it, but depands on how big the price cut is.  Once at $200 price cuts tend to be small.

MS will HAVE to cut price in Europe just to survive, GT5 will destroy it unless they cut price.  A MS price cut in Europe will maintain what is happening there right now.  It wont Swing Europa in MS favor.  Not with GT5 coming.

The 360 is losing the value battle in NA?  LOL, the same 360 that you have to pay a yearly fee for online multiplayer, that has proprietary hard drives, a popular proprietary wireless network adapter, dvd drive rather than more expensive blu-ray, etc.  There's a reason why Microsoft made 300+ million off the 360 last quarter and Sony lost lots of money.
