Amazon is a very tiny peice of the market, and does not represent reality. If we only looked at Amazon.com, scribblenaughts would already be at 1m sold in the US.

Actually it's 5.1 million in 4 weeks or 1.275 million a week.  And normally games don't sell those numbers but it is possible.  Main reason it is possible is because of the strong Japanese sales.  Most games, either due to separate release, not so strong legs in Japan, or titles that are strong in the west aren't strong in the East cause for something like this to not be possible.  But Mario of course has broken all those rules.

Well given that my last week of Japan sales might be a little high for NSMB Wii, which I did comment on, but otherwise that fits my middle ground quite nicely.  Awesome.

The leak of the second week numbers for NSMB in Japan is perfectly in line with that prediction from ioi.
