MGS3 was very sad, and in the end it had that feeling of "hoplessness". What else could have drived Big Boss forward if not a life altering event like that one.

MGS4 was intensely emotional and overwhelming, but at the same time it was surprisingly "hopeful". All those incredibly iconic characters are saying a final good bye, but ultimatelly the world has a second chance because of them. It was something quite unique, sad and optimistic at the same time.

for me is ffx when tidus had to go back to zanarkand and had to leave yuna

Sorry to make this ending even more sadder for you but Tidus never returned to Zanarkand. The "dream" Zanarkard was an illusion kept alive by the real people of the true Zanarkand who turned themselves into fayth in order to keep the memory of the city alive. Once all the fayth were freed, so were the ones who kept that Zanarkand illusion alive and therefore there was no place for Tidus to return to. As a matter of fact, he vanishes because he is part of that same illusion to begin with.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

The Darkness had the saddest ending for me, probably one of most emotional driven games I've ever played. Still the most underrated game this gen.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Yea I think I'm going to have to go with HL2: Episode 2. I mean it's sad because of the way it ended, but hard to count it because technically it is supposed to be leading into episode 3. But sad nonetheless.

The saddest ending in a videogame belongs to Ocarina of Time because you finish the game.It should last forever.

For a while it was Final Fantasy X; after seeing the real ending in the sequel, it was even sadder in a good way. everyone lived happily ever after.

Crisis Core

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

Tomb Raider Underworld: Lara's mom got transported to Avalon in Tomb Raider Legend. In Underworld, you finally find her.....and she's half zombie. Lara has to put her out of her misery.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Everyone already named this one. It's my favorite ending, ever. Very emotional.

Final Fantasy X: Auron was dead. Jecht died. And when Yuna started to "send" everyone, Tidus had to go, too? Damn you, Square!! When Yuna tried to hug Tidus and fell right through him.....if I weren't so manly, *sniff*, I'd have......excuse me for a minute. Got something in my eye.

Magna Carta 2: If Juto disobeys his master, his skin will burn and he will die. His new master (Princess Zephie) commands him to stand down. He still fights to the death, despite great pain, to save the world.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time: After fighting side by side through the whole game with Farrah and finally kissing her, the Prince must erase her memory of the whole game. Damn. It takes TWO more sequels to finally get those two together.

fable 2 when you choose sacrifice as you feel very lonely without your dog and character feels very sad. halo 3 ending and from video game books halo books are very sad.

I know kids these days miss out on all the good games, but seriously? neither of those games have sad endings. Fable II is about as emotionless as a rock in a field of rocks, and how could you have any emotion for the master chief? I mean, he's just a generic super soldier with no important history, family, or emotions. He has none. He might as well have no name and be a robot.

Not to say anything about the games, Fable II is a half decent 100% linear walk-a-long adventure game and Halo 3 is still the king of console shooters.
