Sorry to make this ending even more sadder for you but Tidus never returned to Zanarkand. The "dream" Zanarkard was an illusion kept alive by the real people of the true Zanarkand who turned themselves into fayth in order to keep the memory of the city alive. Once all the fayth were freed, so were the ones who kept that Zanarkand illusion alive and therefore there was no place for Tidus to return to. As a matter of fact, he vanishes because he is part of that same illusion to begin with.
