Capcom is proud to announce that Resident Evil 4 Wii edition for the Nintendo Wii has shipped over 1 million copies worldwide.

It is Capcom’s on-going plan to aggressively pursue the continued creation of unique and inspired creations for the Wii, including such titles as “Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles”, which is set to go on sale on November 15th, followed by “Sengoku Basara 2 (Heroes) Double Pack” (November 29th), “We Love Golf!” (December 13th), and “Monster Hunter 3 (tri-)” (TBA).

Not bad for a port. Capcom estimated less than 500.000 copies.

For those who will be moaning about shipped numbers: Shipped to retailers is where Capcom gets its money from.

They must be very happy with this. It might be the easiest extra money they have ever made. Sales will continue of course - its still one of the best games available for the Wii.

Yeah now Zack & Wiki needs those darn earned 1 million copies as well! So start buying it people!

I believe the exact number was 420k.

Hopefully the surprising success of their first Wii game of any quality will make Capcom realise good software sells well on the Wii. Let's also keep our fingers crossed they'll also make more games like Zack&Wiki, despite almost certainly disappointing sales.

Zack & Wiki is new IP.
RE is quite well known.

New IP normally don't do well unless hyped out of all proportion.

Zack&Wiki is well hyped. IMO it will barely hit 500k lifetime WW making Capcom really happy for and adventure game. These kind of games never sell extremely well in America (they fare better in EU). I think this game will have low debut but very good legs.

I'm wondering how much they were expecting from zack and wiki. It wasn't advertised at all and it's also a budget game. I wonder if they realise that the game is easily good enough to be full price.

This doesn't surprise me one bit. The dramatic improvement they made with the Wii version over the GC/Ps2 versions is astounding. I owned the GC version and finished it about 8 times, raced my brother in a side-by-side run-through (he had ps2 version, me on GC) twice, which was pretty cool seeing the direct comparison and the GC version having the much better graphics. But the Wii version is way better than both. The graphics compared to the GC version are much clearer and sharper, especially in 480p 16:9 on my 52" screen. I was pleasently shocked on how good the controls are. It's like the evolution in controls between Doom 1 and Quake 4. No free mouse look or jumping in old doom, but quake 4 is spot on. Thats just how much better the Wii controls are compared to the gc/ps2. Even after finishing the GC version so many times, i was happy to trade it in to get the Wii version. I wish more people would buy it, it's one of the best games on Wii.

RE4 is a great game and I'm happy that it is a success for Capcom. My observation here in Germany was, that the game was in the beginning in only a few copies in the shelves and it was sold out sometimes. Now the stores ordered bigger amounts. I think not only Capcom was surprised by the success. @routsounmanman's sig: I also think that Capcom will bring RE5 to the Wii, but the announcement will follow the release of RE5 in the other versions.
