Blu-ray allows for uncompressed textures which helps. It's probably the reason Dragon Age ended up superior on the PS3

Not according to the Bioware forums... cough. Aparently they get crawling framerates in some battles especially when they try to use blizzards and that 4th level fire spell. Aparently even though the game looks better, it does not play as well. Pick your poison. Based on my years of experience in gaming, gameplay > graphics but some would disagree.

Blu-Ray provides room for a LOT more custom texturing, so if you have sprawling environments, and *know* that you've got 50GB of disc space, you can make stuff look pretty cool and unique.

Per-frame quality... no, Blu-Ray won't help you there. Unique environments and level variety? Yep, helps a ton... if you're a Blu-Ray exclusive.

Not exactly.. You see, Blu-Ray has larger storage capacity, which means, theoretically you could store more detailed/textured images in a the disc, but if you don't have the CPU and GPU to back it up, you would be unable to render these images on your TV. Something else you need to take into consideration is the fact that blu-ray disc speed is like 2x right now, compared to DVD drives which are around 8x - 16x. This is very important, this is why some PS3 games have slower loading times than 360 games. If, one day, Blu-Ray drives equal or surpass the drive speeds of DVD drives then you will see a significant leap in textures, loading times, etc. Basically, the speed limits the amount of information the laser can access at once.

Blu-ray 2x = DVD 8x

it is not as simple as that. first of all the 2x speed is consistent over the entire disc, whereas on a dvd or cd-rom it actually varies and the speed they report is on the innermost ring to boost the number. also, more info is stored in a smaller area, so the disc does not need to travel as far in order to read the same info.

BR means more space. That is all.

There's a lot more space when you use a blu ray, so of course that can and will translate to higher resolution textures, and better graphics - if you use it. The amount of ram on the PS3 doesn't matter when you continuously stream it in off the disk. 3rd partys will almost never use the space though when working on a multiplatform game, because of additional costs, and console parity.

Of course Blu ray has better graphics, BECUZ ITS SUPPORTED BY TEH CELL!!!11111111

no seriously, it has just more storage for data.

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

The resolution of textures is limited by GPU memory, really -- nothing to do with Blu-Ray.

The variety of textures across the entire game, is the actual benefit of Blu-Ray.

Don't forget that Rambus's RAM is way faster than xboxs so witch means faster processing witch means way better than 1 gb but 2 times slower.

No my son, GPU = Graphics

Blu Ray = Disk Storage nothing more.

CD = Disk Storage
