The gap was almost completely built up when there was only 1 HD console on the market.

This thread was actually about the new environment after both companies issued a price cut and Sony released the slim.

Yes.  The 360 outsold the PS3 by 1.8 million from this point in 2008 through the end of the year.  I think it is possible that the PS3 outsells the 360 by 2 million for the remainder of this year.  Possibly higher if FF13 really moves the predicted 500k in Japan.

I'm sure its going to be closed by another 2-3 million before the year ends if microsoft does not issue a $149 XBOX 360 sku.

Its $199, and no the average consumer doesn't know you need to buy: WIFI, HDD, etc..for a better experience. The entry price for a 360 is $199, the entry price for   a PS3 is $299, and the entry price for a Wii is $199
