Does delaying GOW III and Mag and the such help clear the way to pump up Uncharted 2 holiday sales into blockbuster territory?
Sony has a lot of successful and popular franchises, however it doesn't have many sure fire 4 or 5 Million unit sellers. GT may be the only exception. What are your thoughts on the idea of Sony clearing the holiday line up to help boost the sales of Uncharted 2. Obviously there is competition with games like Demon Soul and Ratchet & Clank as well as with behemoth's MW2 and AC2 that can take away sales from Uncharted 2, but for the first time it seems like Sony's marketing team is firmly behind one game to push it into great success. Previously it felt as if Sony's thought was "Heres this game, this game, this game, and this game. They're all good go buy a couple" But now it seems like they are saying "Go buy Uncharted 2. If you buy a game it has to be this game." Maybe I'm just imagining things but what are you guys thoughts on this tactic. Is it a planned strategy or not a strategy at all? Will it help sales or not?
Also, kind of unrelated but also kind of related... one strategy I felt the console manufacturer's have missed out on is bundling multiplayer games. Many times they will bundle single player games or games that have limited multiplayer play and I feel it adds value but it doesn't incite other console owners to buy games. I think if a game like Warhawk or Killzone 2 was bundled with the PS3 then not only would it add value but also it would help create a must have game. If you force a new console owner to play a single player game because it was bundled they may play the game and like it and maybe lend it to a friend or two to play it. However if you force a multiplayer game into a consumers hand and they like it instead of lending it to a friend or two they will try to convince them to buy the game so that they could play online with them. And if this scenario is multiplied over a larger number it can create a blockbuster game that everyone must have because everyone else is going to have it. I feel this is the case for many successful games like Halo and Mario Kart and Super Smash brothers. They are must own games for those consoles.
How many times have you gone to a friends house and a debate broke out between a couple people about who is better at Halo or Super Smash Brothers and then another person jumps into the debate because they also have played it? It becomes part of the video game subculture. Sony lacks this kind of game, especially this generation. I feel bundling a multiplayer like Warhawk(too late now obviously) or Killzone 2 or the upcoming ModNation Racer could create this type of must have game that becomes a part of the video game subculture. That everyone wants to have because all their friends have it too. I'm sure many of you had convinced some of your friends to buy COD4(I convinced 3) now that MW2 is coming out I no longer have to convince them, they are reminding me to pick it up so that we all could play again because the game had become a part of our video game subculture. Bundling I feel is a good way to create this type of subculture.
I'm not really sure if i have a question about this theory but I'd like to know your guys thoughts, or questions, or comments, or even ideas that may be unrelated but this post made you think of.. Thanks.

But overall I agree, Sony is finally puting real advertisement budgets behind one game and the effects are observeble from day 1

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move, and Kinect.
