It remains to be seen yet if GOW can be a blockbuster or not. Surely there is a lot of anticipation for the game, but niether of the previous two GOW games cracked the 4 million mark. They have good numbers(especially for late generation entries) but I'm talking about creating a monster like Halo, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy(in japan), Mario Kart, Super Smach Brothers, Monster Hunter(in japan), Fifa(in others), Madden(in america). Games that are must own for the video game subcultures. I think God Of War has a chance, but if there was multiplayer it would have a better chance because friends have a big influence on each other in the video game market.
