Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft reiterates that 360 will outsell PS3 for the entire generation

If Microsoft doesn't drop the price when Natal drops or package NATAL with a 360 plus a price drop then they're getting outsold with the PS3 over taking the 360's lead by Winter 2010. Believe that

Nah, even then it'd still take the PS3 at minimum until Holidays 2011 to overtake the 360's lead.  And that's assuming it maintains 90k+ average weekly sales over the 360 for the entirety until then, which isn't likely.

I can't say whether Sony's line-up is good or very good, making the difference, but what's very evident is that MS and some of its fans feel the urge to belittle that Sony is currently doing better than predicted.

Oh? Since Sony is the most belittleable console manufacturer based strictly on their own actions, why not belittle?

So MS doesn't need to worry... Interesting, I'll take note of it.

They probably don't need to worry. Sony on the other hand just clocked up $100,000,000,000 in debt...

Quite big indeed. Can it secure it with its assets, cash and other positive balance items? It looks like it can, up until now, and obviously only a small part of those $100billion can be ascribed to PS3.  And more  obviously, now that Sony invested some billions $ on PS3, giving up just when HW is going to become profitable and SW, royalties, periferals, etc have already been for months would be throwing away all the investments, so the only sensible thing to expect is that Sony will try to do its best. We know that what screwed Sony so much are other electronic products, using PS3 to launch BD simply delayed HW profitability one year or so from usual (excluding Nintendo that's a lot more prudent about it), but Sony, for example, lost its dominance on TV sets and monitors, this screwed it more than anything else. So Sony needs to worry, but quite likely BD and PS3 are amongst the things starting to give it some relief, they cost a lot, but they start paying, while losing the position Sony had with Trinitron is a total loss, not an investment, Sony may, or better, must try to recover something with Bravia, but what it lost with Trinitron is by no means an investment, it's a loss, period.

With its current momentum it looks like the PS3 will be selling 200k+ for a good long while. Especially with it's heavy hitters coming out next year.

Meh, not really.  After about January or February it will drop down to 175k or less per week, then keep dropping as it nears summer just like last year.  Overall the average of the 52 weeks would be less than 90k weekly advantage.  To overtake the 360's lead by next winter it would need to outsell the 360 by like 135k+ each week, which won't happen, sorry.

FFXIII coming out as a PS3 exclusive in December will push PS3 sales in Japan alone over the 5 million mark prior to the release of GT5 in March.  Plus, they have some other big titles coming out between FFXIII in December and GT5 in March.  God of War, Star Ocean International, White Knight Chronicles in the Western market.  (Also, as a result of FFXIII's Japan sales, they will be able to add other exclusive Japanese titles to their roster of games that will be coming out in the First half of 2010.  Also FF Versus XIII could release as a PS3 exclusive at least in Japan during the first half of 2010.

They also have Heavy Rain, MAG, The Last Guardian, and FFXIV probably during the holidays of 2010.

So, I don't think there's any reason to think PS3 will drop in the foreseeable future and it should increase with more unannounced Japanese exclusives coming in the second half of 2010.

I don't think it will overtake 360 holidays 2010, but spring 2011 seems like it could be the time.

Of course this is all possible Only if Microsoft decide against a Price drop and bundling NATAL with 360s for free

What's really funny, is that most people thougth it would be below 175k right now, heck... People thought it would be there on its 3rd week after the pricecut. And look what happened there.

PS3 Q1/Q2 lineup of games has enough quality and selling potential to keep sales up. There is no reason why games like Final Fantasy 13, God of War 3 and most of all Gran Turismo 5 can't provide boost's good enough to keep it in the ~200k range.
