I liked both NSMB and Galaxy about the same, they're both mario titles and they both have their pros and cons. I wouldn't ever say Nintendo is putting a lid on 3D mario, after all, Super Mario 64 sold how many copies, over 11 million? Unless it was a complete epic fail, I'm sure they'll still be around.

I think 3D Mario will live on, OR 3D Mario will be replaced by 3D DONKEY KONG!!! B_E_L_I_E_V_E!!!!

think about it, if nintendo makes their main Mario games 2D, having another 3D platformer franchise makes more sense.

I think you might be right that the 2D Marios will become the "main" Marios, but I still think there is plenty of room for the 3D Marios. It's not like 8 million sold hasn't turned a healthy profit.

well given that DK 64 didn't do so well, I don't see that happening. I do love the franchise though. I beat the first 3 to 100% (well, technically over 100%) and they were a blast.

Wouldn't you want DKC to stay 2D also though? Out of the two I'd rather have Donkey Kong in 2D and Mario in 3D, although I'd prefer to have them both in 2D if I could. 3D platform titles are for the most part just not as well done in my opinion. They're like medium rare.

Of course, a 2D DK would be the best. But any main DK game will make me happy.

It's called variety. If you take it away from your customers and impose only the most popular of your products without any other choice, then you will be lucky to retain even half of your customers. I think variety is better.

Let's hope Nintendo starts focusing on variety next year, I have faith in them. No more sequels, and yes to new experiences (other than Wii series)

3D Mario will never be doomed, 2D Mario was never doomed. Mario is a huge franchis, nothing with the name Mario on it can be doomed.
