Forums - Sales Discussion - For those claiming PSP Go didn't flop it's time to step up

illiteratewhino said:
The only standard available at the time of this writing that one could compare the first week of sales for the PSP go! would be to compare it to the first week of sales for other hand held gaming devices.
For example:

The original PSP
The Nintendo DS
The Nintendo Gameboy Advance
The Nintendo Gameboy Color
Etc, etc.

Some may claim that, as a new product which lacks the traditional retail channel it would be unfair to compare it to said consoles, but it is the only standard we have to go by for at the moment.
But; it could also be argued that comparing it to the original PSP would be fair as when it debuted it was opening with a new media standard (UMD) to play games/videos.

Also, when more information becomes available we could judge from our POV how bad/well it did according to the expectations of SONY, since we don't have hard numbers to go by at the moment, things to take into account, like : costs of development, costs of manufacture, and profit/loss in sales.

Just saying...

The only way to compare the launch of the PSP Go is to compare it to it's closest product.... which would be.... DRUM ROLL PLEASE! THE PSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why compare it to a monopoly which before the psp the closest competitor got like 5% of the market share? Seriously... Gameboy sold more than the SNES, NES, PS1, and every other game console except for the PS2. Comparing it to that is just stupid.

I doubt anyone was expecting high numbers. It only flops if people have high expectations.

And from the looks of a few of the posts in here, some people apparently did.

And the funny thing is these same people are the ones posting for weeks on how it wont sell...

And Vice-Versa. The door swings both ways my friend, As you laugh at them for saying it flopped, they are laughing at you for thinking it didn't.

You're just being ridiculous now. The general concensus of the PSP Go would be it wouldn't sell... but so far it sold on par with the normal PSP... I'd say that's good. Why would anyone believe the Go would sell more? There is no evidence it would. Why would someone suggest it would increase PSP sales? There is no evidence of that since it's targetting the same people but trying to get people who are already interested in buying a PSP to buy the higher end model.

so you guys putting zune at a major flops.
it doesn't sell what ipods or even half walkmans do.
yet microsoft keeps on market, same for the 360.
but it managed to improve numbers from last weeks, i don't it a flop especially since only release a week ago.

wait abit to spit such no sense.

You keep telling me I'm being ridiculous, but can't ever seem to be able to come up with a good reason why, at least, not one that is even remotely relevant to what I have been saying this entire thread.

A. because you claim comparing a single model of the PSP to a competitor thats been in and dominating the handheld business for 20 years is the most reasonable way to see if the PSP Go is a flop or not while completely conveniently forgetting that no one expected such numbers. B. Because you are saying people won't take me seriously because I bring up the fact that before PSP Go launch everyone said it won't sold and the irony now is everyone was supposedly expecting high numbers... yeah.... that makes sense

I dont think the Go flopped. For a more direct comparison we should maybe compare the different 360 SKU's.

I understand the DSlite to DSi analogy, but in those terms its pretty much on par since the Go is selling equal to the PSP3000 at least in the states.

The thing is, its not a replacing SKU, or even a upgraded SKU...its just a different option.

If overall PSP sales double, i dont see how it can be considered a flop.

When the Elite launched did the 360 sales double?

In overall objective terms, ioi has posted the Go sold 30k in america and the PSP3000 went up as well from last week, so it sold about half of overall PSP sales in America.....i dont understand how an added SKU can flop when its doubled the total sales of the platform, but thats just me.

Appearantly, you didn't read this post.

"So, where exactly did I say it was a flop? C'mon, surely you must have seen me say it somewhere since I am obviously hellbent on trolling the heck outta the PSP. Here's what I don't get...why the heck are you so insecure about the PSPGo? Is saying the PSP Go didn't flop seriously the only thing that will make you feel good about yourself.

According to your definition of my logic, I guess the 360 and PS3 were both flops as well...OMFG I had better ditch my 360! I can't have a console that flopped!!! I mean, my god, The PS3 and the 360 are both held to the standard which IS the Wii, and somehow, neither are considered flops (unless you talk to fanboys). I think the same would be true with the DS Lite and the PSP Go. If you could look past your own insecurity, perhaps you would see this."

Enjoy!

LOL? Where did you say it flopped? When you said the most logical thing is to compare it to the NDS. Yes let's do that. 35k vs 400k.... Hm.... by this comparison all we can do is come to the conclusion that it's a flop. Why else would you want to compare it to the DS?

The PS3 and 360 have not been held to the Wii's standards at all. Why do you think the Wii fans always go into threads saying "Yeah but the wii did this!" or "I don't know why you guys exclude wii in these comparisons"
